After watching the Chargers today, I realized that the gold stripe on their socks is actually not part of the sock at all. I always assumed it was

The actual game socks are one piece (each) with white at the bottom, a yellow stripe and a blue top. For some reason over the past decade, players started showing their individuality by altering their socks and wearing them incorrectly. Lots of guys will wear white ankle socks over Under Armour tights. Lots of guys will wear multiple pairs of socks pulled up to varying heights. It looks like #56 is wearing three pairs of socks. The pair with the blue and yellow are probably worn over the knee, with the feet cut off. I looks like he could be wearing blue tights underneath, which is what you see under the one yellow stripe.

As for the other game yesterday, I didn't have a horse in the race, but I'm glad the Panthers lost. To show up for a huge, important game like that dresed like clowns is dumb. Aside from them just looking horrible in general, I hated their black pants when they were first introduced because I knew it would lead to crap like this. The Panthers' black jersey/silver pants is a GREAT combo. The team stupidly wears white at home for half their games, then wears the blue alternates once or twice more. As is, we only got to see the black jerseys 4-5 times a year. Now they have started messing up the look for the few times they actually wear black. And for the most important game of the season, they decided to not wear their best look, but wear their rarest look because it was kewl and fierce or some crap like that. The 49ers obviously didn't understand that they were supposed to be intimidated.

I'm looking through some other photos and this probably explains it the best.

The Broncos use the same thing but i don't see really ever their socks having this many oddities as the Chargers do in their first year in these. It looked like that the yellow stripe was separate and that it was intended to pop out more because of the use of fabric in it, like padding.

Or maybe some players just wear the ring completely separate when not wearing the actual socks

Go A's!

Some Super Bowl possibilities

This (sort of) happened once before

Thanks for the nightmares.

Right there with ya

(BTW, look at that field! What the hell, NFL?)

I'm sure a good number of people know this but I guess for good luck montana decided to wear his jersey from his 1st SB against the bengals in this game. If you look closely through old phots or video it's pretty obvious as the striping, number and name font are all from that era while the rest of the team wore the current version.

Wow, I never knew that! I think that's probably one of the coolest sports uniform related items I've ever heard. I absolutely geek out on little things like that. I can't even imagine how much that jersey would go for on the open market to memorabilia collectors considering it was part of TWO Joe Montana Super Bowl wins. And it's certainly something that could never happen today. Could you imagine the uproar if next year the Packers make the Super Bowl and Aaron Rodgers comes out in his old Reebok jersey from their last Super Bowl? :P

Actually Aaron Rodgers is probably one of the few qbs that oils get away with it. He would just need to switch out the manufacturers logo.

An last yr probably would've been the best color color matchup.

And he did that for the following Super Bowl vs Denver, wearing the jersey from his first win (if I remember correctly)

Here's Super Bowl XXIII

As long as we're reliving Niner-related nightmares....

This is why I wasn't that upset to see them lose to Baltimore last year. The 49ers were the NFL's dreamkillers for a decade and a half and it was mostly against team with no winning pedigree (Cincinnati 2X, Denver (in their super bowl blowout days), and San Diego in their only appearance in the show). It was their turn to feel the Super Bowl sting.

(I will also be pulling for Seattle this weekend for the same reasons)

A Seahawks/Broncos matchup would be a perfect chance to do color/color SB.

Or better yet, just have the teams wear gray sweatpants and colored t-shirts with a local State Farm agent's name on the back to make the matchup even more amateurish.

Sarcastiball?

Ugh, no way. Both with navy helmet? That would look pretty bad and it would be somewhat difficult to tell the teams apart from certain TV angles.

I know they wouldn't allow but I honestly don't think there would be a conflict. You'd be looking at (helmet/jersey/pant):

- navy/navy/navy

- navy/orange/white

There are a lot of match ups during the corse of a season that have been worse ie:

- navy/white/navy (Seahawks away)

- navy/navy/white (Bears home)

Just observing.
