SF Giants away unis

Yes. They messed it up by adding the placket piping. Also, the road alt is garbage and is a nod to a time which doesn't need nodding to.

I'm not much of a fan of placket piping in general. In the Giants' case, the placket piping is even worse because it doesn't match the sleeve piping.

I love placket piping in general. However, it is terrible for the Giants not only because it doesn't match the sleeve and pants piping, but because it doesn't match the look of the home and alternate jersey.

I'm just not a fan of long city names on jerseys. I much prefer interlocking intials. Frankly, I really like the baseball jerseys of the 80's when more teams wore the team name or team logo on boths sets of jerseys (The Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Expos, Astros, Cubs, Orioles, Indians, Royals, Twins, Mariners, Blue Jays, Pirates, Phillies, Cardinals, etc.).

Ugh, no. Put the location name on the road uniform.

I think we know what towns the teams hail from these days.

IMO the gold shadow, which many on here don't care for, makes that uniform. It's very subtle and not really visible on the TV, but I still think it's a really nice touch that makes it from "generic" to "nice".

Agreed. It's not really too noticeable but works as it's intended to, just an accent that looks great and gives the black and orange a little something extra.

Yeah, but the principle of team names at home and city names on the road just looks right.

It's all personal preference. I'm a New York Mets fan and I liked the 14 seasons they wore the team name on all of the uniforms. Most teams did the same back in the 1980's. It's probably no coindence that I watched a lot of baseball in the 80s, when the Mets were good, and I look back at the uniforms of that era with fondness.

The St. Louis Cardinals have only worn their team name and logo on their uniforms (home & away) for most of their existence, and I would argue that the Card's uniform is one of the best in all of sports.

I agree. But that doesn't mean every team should. The birds on the bat with script make it difficult, though not impossible, to put the location on the road. Most teams don't have the same issue. The Phillies get a pass because of the length of the city combine with the font and the fact that Phillies is just a shortened version of Philadelphia essentially. They're really the only ones (Phillies that is) that have a legitimate excuse. Save for maybe the Angels just so as not to piss of the city of Anaheim.

Other than that, location on the roads is just better.

Bingo. When you're not in your home city, you don't wear your team name. Your no longer just representing a team, you're representing a city.

But your rule doesn't apply to the St. Louis Cardinals who have chosen not to have their city name or interlocking city initials on their road uniforms since 1922 ... And the Athletics chose to play 81 seasons before they decided to regularly wear their city name on their away jerseys ... I think I understand.

Yes. You're well equipped at linking to old uniforms. Ones that look decent even. However there's still a common "unwritten rule of baseball aesthetics" that the location should be on the away jersey if possible. Kind of breaks of the monotony of the same uniform for both home and away, just one being white and the other gray.

But what's the point of having the location on the away jersey, if the location is already on the cap? Based on the cap, we can figure out where some teams are from.
