While not minor-league baseball, the Holyoke Blue Sox of the New England Collegiate Baseball League - a collegiate summer circuit - are sporting a new logo this season. The mark was designed by Skye Dillon - cward here in the CCSLC - of Skye Design Studios.

i had seen that floating around but didn't know it had become the official primary mark. Sure beats the original where you can barely make out that it's a dog at bat at the bottom

Arial Black, too. Oh, the attention to detail is all over this one.

i cant help but think 90% of minor league baseball teams names sound ...stupid. really, desert gators? cmon now.

on another topic, in he atlantic league of professional baseball, the camden riversharks changed thier logo which now predominetly containes thier sponsor WaWa in giant red letters when the logo itself is white, navy and light blue and grey. looks wrong

Well, El Paso is coming into AAA ball & have 5 finalists for their team name

They are:

-Aardvarks

-Buckaroos

-Chihuahuas

-Desert Gators

-Sun Dogs

I'm kind of curious what they would put for Desert Gators.

People in El Paso are rather upset with the choices. There was a push to bring back the old Sun Kings. I'm a fan of the Chihuahuas. Just think of an angry dog on the cap wearing a Mexican hat.

They still exist as an independent team: http://www.diablos.com

Well yeah, but I was assuming they'd fold or leave once the AAA team came in.

The GM of the El Paso AAA team said on a radio interview they wanted to go with a fresh start. The Diablos are on their last legs and the ownership group is looking for a buyer. So if anyone here wants to own their own baseball team, you can put in an offer.

Desert Gators is a bit of a historical reference to the alligators that used to live in nearby San Jacinto Plaza (which will be a couple blocks away from the stadium)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jacinto_Plaza

Yep. The Padres couldn't get their suburban San Diego stadium built, so their AAA club needs a permanent home.

Why did they rip them out of Portland again??

I believe it was due to their stadium being rebuilt into soccer specific dimensions for the Portland Timbers.

Yes it was. The Beavers were basically kicked out.

I do think El Paso Padres has a nice ring to it, although I understand wanting to form their own identity.

I just hope the logo and name they choose relate to each other.

The Scranton Railriders with a porcupine makes no sense. They should have just been the Scranton/WB Porcupines.
