What would the present NO Hornets rebrand to, then? Maybe they can do a swap with Utah and get the Jazz name back, then Utah could swap with Memphis and become the Grizzlies, they could swap with Minnesota to get the Wolves name, and then Minnesota and L.A. could finally swap between Lakers and Wolves.

Somehow I don't see the Los Angeles Lakers changing to a new name any time soon...

Gotta double-tap these ideas. Only way they stay dead.

Uh, yea...let's not play that New Orleans/Utah swap game again, please. <_<:P

As for the New Orleans Hornets, apparently they are planning on rebranding soon...new name (some signs point to Pelicans) and new colors (Red, Gold, Blue). That leaves the Hornets name available for the Bobcats franchise to obtain and use. That same thread I linked to has more information concerning it.

I'm all for Charlotte taking back the Hornets name if it becomes available, BTW; it would make up for New Orleans going from the distinct Creole Blue/Yellow/Purple to the more generic Red/Gold/Blue.

Pelicans sounds like a Independent League baseball team or an orignal ABA team which folded midway through a season. I doesn't get any more minor league-ish than Pelicans.

Also, it's really bad to hear they might go with red, blue and gold. However, it will depend on if they use acutal gold or yellow gold. Red, yellow and blue (royal or navy) together look really bad. However, red, actual-gold and navy is at least a decent color scheme. However, they would be best served going to Mardi Gras colors. The Jazz "returned to their colors" by switching purple to navy and darkening the green, making a horrific, muddlied mess. NO should go with purple, kelly green and metallic gold. It would be sufficiently different from what the Jazz wear.

The colors are more than likely influenced by New Orleans' city flag. So assume these colors.

I've always been curious of his, does New Orleans actually make any money off of Charlotte Hornets throwback gear.

AFAIK, they don't sell Charlotte Hornets gear down here.

I like Pelicans at least for the history (there were baseball teams name the Pelicans for 90 years from 1887-1977, with thought given to reviving them in the early 1990s) and the connection to the state of Louisiana.

Never seen any Charlotte Hornets throwback merch for sale ANYWHERE down here, nor any New Orleans Jazz stuff, etiher. But ABA Buccaneers stuff?-- Oh yeah, especially since the Hornets wore those throwbacks. At the arena's team store, sportsgear stores, etc.

New Orleans Bullets. What could go wrong?

The New Orleans Tar Pelicans.

Playing at the brand new BP Arena.

Not funny.

NBA history does not need to be any more convoluted.

The Charlotte Hornets are dead. Calling another team the Hornets isn't going to do a :censored:ing thing for that market, because it won't suddenly put Muggsy Bogues, Glen Rice, Grandmama, and Mourning back on the team. They'll still be a bottom feeder, just a bottom feeder playing dress up of a team that's long since abandoned the market.
