Lights Out
I came across this picture of Terry Cummings from back in the day, and I'm wondering what the story is with the uniform here:I thought they only wore blue and white versions of this look. chakfu
The picture can only be from '83-84, Cummings' last as a San Diego Clipper and DJ's first as a Celtic.I always associate the blue and white versions you refer to with the early LA Clippers (as listed on the mothership as 84-85 through 86-87).This search of the '84-84 Star basketball cards shows mostly blue jerseys, but also Walton and Billy McKinney in the reds. As well as Terry Cummings in the the sky blue !! (used in the preseason? proto-photoshop?)http://www.checkoutmycards.com/Cards/Basketball/1983-84,+clippers'82-'86 is quite a 'dark age' as far as I'm concerned since the only basketball cards were Star. But it looks like you're right about these being used alongside the blues (no neat red roads for 83-85 SD, blue roads for LA solution)
illwauk
I have no new information, but great find! Terry Cummings was my favorite Buck growing up because we shared the same birthday.
Sodboy13
Is that the curly, kinda-1975-Astros numeral font Sand-Knit used a fair bit for about a decade? I know I've seen multiple instances, but the only one which immediately comes to mind is the Milwaukee Does from '70s women's basketball. Eye
Had no idea that the Astros used this font with the Rainbow Guts; I thought they only used the block font. Those Clippers uniforms are nice, both the blue, and red.
Frylock
Also the Atlanta Braves used that circus font for a year or two on the softball jerseys in the mid-70s. I have been trying to find a TTF version of that font for years...
Discogod
Ah, the early 80's Clippers uni conundrum - I came across this a couple of years ago, and spent quite a while trying to solve it. I can confirm that the Clippers wore both red and blue road unis for the '83-'84 season. I suspect that the blue uni was used more than the red, but that's just conjecture on my part.
