Coyote
wow I didn't know cool base versions of that existed, I thought they were done with that jersey by the time those came inIt's a shame the Dbacks generi-cized their jerseysYeah I was surprised too. I wish this was a smaller size so I can actually wear it. It's a size 48, and its super huge on me. Probably will give it to my old man whenever father's day rolls around. And yeah, its a shame that the D-Backs reduced their identity to minor league quality. FiddySicks
Ok, I'm gonna preface all of this by stating that I LOVE Phoenix, and Chase Field... BUT.The D Backs identity makes that ball park even worse. Don't get me wrong, brick, black, and sand is a great color combination, but it just doesn't work for the D Backs. At least when they were wearing teal and purple it seemed as if it was this oasis in the middle of a sprawling and empty desert. Now, everything in their identity package just matches the surroundings. When you set up a pro franchise in a wasteland like Phoenix, Arizona, the last thing you wanna do is blend in with the surroundings. It takes what is basically a drab warehouse looking ball park by necessity that was balanced out by all of the bright colors and turns it into a Costco with a retractable roof. And even worse than all of that is now they have this absolutely terrible mish mash of colors all around the ball park. Everything from the championship banners, to the fans attire, to even some of the original architecture that was done to match the original color scheme that can't just simply be re painted, is now this awful mixture of purple, teal, brick, sand, copper, and black.Sigh. They shoulda just let the Stros keep the brick and black. Both Franchises are worse off aesthetically now than they were in 2004. Look, I know that a lot of people really love when the Astros dress like the Tigers because it reminds them of the days when they were playing on the living room carpet and somehow being even more forgettable competitively than they are right now, but I guarantee you that they'll have a lot of the same aesthetic issues at Minute Maid that plague Chase Field. However, you can argue that the D-Backs evolved their color scheme to eliminate green almost altogether aside from a few accents on the jersey and logos. They became too similar to their division rivals, the Colorado Rockies. And while I loved their jersey set, it was a time for change. They had a new owner and wanted to bring in a new future with Upton, Young, Drew, Reynolds, Webb, and Jackson nicknamed "the Babybacks". They wanted to wash the filthy taste away from their losing season in 2004 where they had to trade Randy Johnson away in the following year. Gonzo had the steroid scandal come up in 2006 while there was no one really left from the 2001 World Champions roster. So I think the change was welcomed by most especially since many saw the state of Arizona as a red state when it comes to their sports teams (Cardinals, Coyotes, ASU, UofA). But I'm willing to say that the execution of the new look of the Diamondbacks to be extremely poor. I love the "sedona red" and the sand, but the script, wordmark, the elimination of the snake-like pattern from the ends of the sleeve and like you said, the inability to change the colors of the ballpark make them look extremely minor league. Ironic that their Triple A affiliate, the Reno Aces, have an overall better look their the D-Backs.Back to the thread. I saw a Penny Hardaway Phoenix Suns throwback at Goodwill, but didn't jump on it due to a few grease stains. I wish I bought that.
Joshawaggie
That's the worst part about the thrift store, you find some glorious jersey, and some a-hole washed it 500 times or has food stains all over it. @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats

I found. $3 penny Hardaway NBA at 50 jersey with paint stains and loose threads in the twill. A few hours of cleaning and a second with a sewing machine and I sold it for 125. Didn't the D-Backs wear these throwbacks recently?

JTernup
I remember hearing that the Cool Base jerseys wer introduced to most teams in 06-07 on there alternate jerseys (Dbacks black). In 07 a handful of teams adopted CB as an option along with Double Knit. Some teams adopted them full time in 07 and more followed suit in 08, by 09-10 most teams became CB only. The Yankees were the only team to stick with DK and never experiment with CB and then last year the Jays returned to DK only. JTernup
Yeah that's what I meant, only on an alternate jersey for the first year or two. If I recall correctly Majestic couldn't even make grey CB jerseys until like 2010 because they couldn't make the underarm mesh in grey. That definitely might explain how often the sox wore it because CB jerseys are AMAZING!
