2013-2014 NHL Uniform & Logo Changes

It's not so much that the Sharks are incompetent, more that they're a mediocre organization that mistakes themselves for a great one. It takes a special, arguably Silicon Valley brand of self-importance to think you've gamed the system by not putting stripes on your uniform.

Sigh. I generally like you as a poster, but after months of constantly hearing this from you I've finally gotta break my silence on this.

Eat a dick, Admiral.

Quit acting like you're so much more of a refined and sophisticated person because you root for a group of guys on skates who wear a different color sweater and play in a different city. I mean, I feel like you must've gotten your ass kicked regularly by a kid who was Sharks fan when you were younger. Sure, the Sharks have choked in the playoffs a lot and have made some poor decisions, but you harping on it constantly and insulting Sharks fans over it does nothing but make you look like a giant toolbag.

So really, you're a great contributor here, you're funny and generally know your stuff. But when it comes to your opinion on the Sharks, :censored: off, already. I'm tired of you taking shots at the entirety of Northern California/The Bay Area/Posters here over it.

And I agree with that. It is stupid. But why constantly take shots at the entire fanbase over it? If it was once or twice, that's fine. But it's going for months and it's getting really tired. I'm not asking for much, and I don't think I'm being particularly unreasonable. Just, quit being an ass about it. You're better than that.

Could be wrong, but I'm assuming its a former member here that we all know. Trust me, I've met him personally, I've seen the crazy upfront. But one bad apple doesn't make the whole tree bad.

Pardon me if this has been discussed already.... but WTF is with the Red Wings' NOB font? Is that just a preseason thing or what?

They always use horizontal nameplates instead of vertically-arched ones for preseason. I was waiting for it to be brought up this year!

Glad someone mentioned that, I thought my mind was tripping really badly since I haven't heard a peep of it. Thankfully that it's just a preseason thing. I guess my question is what font is being used? It definitely looks unique compared to almost all NHL fonts I've seen.

Guy in the grey shirt is every guy you've ever seen at the bar at Chili's who is watching a football game and can't control the volume of his voice, no matter what he's saying.

Woman in the upper left is being pleasured by those carp that eat the dead skin off your feet at high-end spas.

Woman in the front with her hands up is feeling like a big shooter with the ice-level seats someone gave her for A Defending Champion Blackhawks Game. It's a preseason game, which is almost a real game. She's from Downers Grove, which is almost Hinsdale.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I guess the Sharks management hasn't been paying much attention to the recent Stanley Cup winners... Aside from the Pittsburgh Penguins, every champion in the Edge era has had hem stripes. The Bruins and Blackhawks have more stripes than the Shark's old jerseys and it didn't slow them down. When it comes to incompetent organizations, they don't get any better than the Sharks.

Unless you count the [Canucks]. I liked the Sharks jerseys better last spring when this happened.

When it comes to jersey designs, which was the only thing I was referring to when calling out the Sharks, the Canucks are very competent. They were one of the few teams that actually improved their jerseys for the edge changeover. Unlike your Flames that went from arguably the top 5 in the league to bottom 3 overnight.

Trying to gain an advantage by removing stripes, however, is silly. If you want to defend the design on its own merits that's one thing, but their stated reasoning is ridiculous.

Bingo.

I could imagine how much work goes into making those arched nameplates and how it's wasted on a dude who only plays 3 preseason games before being sent down to the AHL.

That said, I would love to see it used as almost an earned right on the team. Guys like Datsyuk and Zetterberg start the preseason with arched nameplates, but guys that don't have contracts have to earn them.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

After seeing bits of the Sharks/Ducks game in San Jose last night, that teal home jersey is just begging for a hem stripe. The white version works for some reason, but that home really needs something else on it.

I actually couldn't disagree more. The teal jersey is passable, to me, because the color is great and going sans yoke seems clean and historically linked to the original Sharks...Also, the teal on black doesn't look so naked. When you pair a white jersey with no yoke (when it looked good on the previous white iteration) and no striping with black pants it just looks like a T-shirt.

Although the Sharks did not hit the mark, they still are headed in the right direction. The removal of all that orange is a huge upgrade over what they previously had. Considering their jersey history, even prior to the Edge designs, their new look is not something we've never seen before. Therefore, I'm willing to give them somewhat of a pass, something I wouldn't give to every team. We can all agree that it's not their best look ever, but I wouldn't consider it as a disaster at all.
