2013-2014 NHL Uniform & Logo Changes

Lol why are we suddenly accepting of a horrible hockey design? Wild wing? Seriously...I know its a novelty, but its still silly. I don't care if its a one game wonder, don't bring it back. It's like a Canucks coming out dressed in the halloween V sweaters. Wtf, no!

Thank you -- I'm glad there's some sense being posted around here. The retro unis and colors are fine, in my opinion, as is the old logo, but Wild Wing is taking things too far. Ah, well.

This is THE GREATEST EXAMPLE of nostalgia trumping good design I've ever seen on these boards. If this was a new look, the outrage would go on for dozens of pages.

I'm a little surprised the Mighty Ducks never went with a jade version of their jerseys. That could've been good(and different for that matter).

gym class floor hockey

was THE BEST. There weren't many sports I excelled in back in gym class. Can't shoot baskets. Can't hit a baseball. But floor hockey was where I could shine. All you really had to do was try hard, and hard I tried. I was a third-grade fourth-liner.

But yeah, I also grew up with the Mighty Ducks movies as a seminal part of my hockey fandom (it sure wasn't watching Blackhawks home games), but the whole identity feels like it straddles the line between major-league and minor-league. In other words, IHL, like I said.

Of all the asinine things that have appeared on goalie masks since the invention of painting goalie masks (Cam Ward had Nickelback on his once) you guys are going to worry about Wild Wing?

Guys, it's really looking like there will not be a Reebok EDGE version of the Mighty Ducks throwbacks.

Ducks just posted these photos from the team store, and they appear to be CCM.

Reebok owns CCM and they use CCM for their NHL Heritage jerseys (as you can see on the tags).

The Ducks' Twitter account says you can order them online eventually, but without the patch (may/may not be a good thing).

The Ducks charity foundation just put this picture up on Instagram:

So this may just be a replica, but if it's like the on ice jerseys it looks like there won't be a shoulder patch (not totally official though) and the jerseys will be the old CCM cut and not EDGE.

Rejoice and/or discuss.

The fact that it says "team classics" on it, makes me think that this is a complete throwback. These jerseys would not have been "classics" at the time CCM and the NHL used those logos.

Makes me hope the Canucks will wear the skate jerseys for the Bure game #LongLiveThe90's

Had the Ducks actually made a switch to something halfway decent I could get this argument, but the sweaters they wear now are absolute garbage.

The colors are the only really poor part of the old set. Sure the old duck mask crest was a bit goofy, but it's for a sports team, not an accounting firm. Sports are supposed to be fun. The DuckS word mark they have now is the worst crest in the league.

I'm here, and I took pictures, but it looks like the Ducks put up the same pictures I took. So I won't post.

But yeah, the replicas are CCM, no shoulder patches, but the material isn't the same as the old CCM material. It's the same pattern of holes, but it's much softer. It's not necessarily thinner, but definitely softer and a tad silkier.

Team store is especially nice and big. Thank god for that. They actually added a full NHL section. And those Stars jerseys in person on the rack, drool.

Ok, just flipped on a 'Canes game for the first time this season. They are playing the Capitals. When I saw the play in action, what I see is a white jersey with red pants and a red yolk, and my first thought was that the Capitals, for whatever reason, are wearing their road alts at home (again).

Sorry, 'Canes. Your sweaters suck.

Little spoiler alert (hope Mike and Greg don't mind), but I was finally able to bring up a topic on BASS tonight that, in some ways, can relate back to Teemu Selanne; figures it comes when you're not on, but this will probably come up again next week, so be a bit prepared for it.

As far as all the Mighty Ducks argument goes. Here's my take and this is from a life-time Kings fan. I was 21 at the time the Mighty Ducks debuted and it was an awesome thought to know that there would be hockey 20 minutes away from me. I instantly became a fan of the team. I loved the logo for its creativity. I think today, boards like this over-analyze logos etc. to the point that nothing is good anymore. I love the colors as they are unique and out of the box for sports. I loved the Wild Wing and Burger King uniforms and all the first 3rd jerseys because they were fun and creative. I don't have a problem with any of them. The movies sucked, so therefore they had no influence on me liking the team because of them. Where the Ducks started to lose me was when they came out with the black and purple third, and then they went over the edge (figuratively and literally) when they went to the current bland, lifeless, corporate look that they have now. Even the current thirds which nicely add orange, are bad with complete over design. And that right there sums up the Ducks current look, over-designed. The original logo and jerseys were simple and clean with original colors.
