Loving the Stars road jerseys. They look great on the ice

And to anyone who is still complaining about the lack of gold: They aren't the Minnesota North Stars, they are the Dallas Stars. Same continuity, different team.

Dude, they wore gold for like, all twenty years they had been in Dallas before now. I really don't wanna get into another discussion as to why I don't like their new stuff, so I'll leave it at that. If you like them, great. But that's a pretty crappy argument right there.

From what I've read on other places, the Ducks team store doesn't have the names and numbers to personalize the Mighty Ducks jerseys yet.

I'll ask on Sunday. They better have them, because I can finally get Hebert's #31 on the Mighty jersey I already own.

Which btw, if anyone already has a Mighty Ducks jersey, there's almost no reason to go get this one. The only difference is the 20th patch and the material. (Plus the ones on the racks were $179. I got mine for $40 on EBay. Like come on)

I've decided that I won't be buying one unless I can buy an authentic.

Why? The replicas are spared from two of the worst elements of Edge replicas: contoured/sliced hems and screen-printed shoulder patches. And if you don't get a player, you're spared from the two other faults (glued-on numbers and hard nameplates).

if any organization was going to half-ass a throwback night by not actually wearing throwbacks, it'd be the florida panthers.

Worth a read...

I disagree. No team, save the Flames, has done as much to emphasis to their connection to their previous incarnation as the Dallas Stars have. The team kept the same colours and logos from their last days in Minnesota when they moved, and kept them relatively unchanged (save for darkening the green) for two decades. The team made it a point to say that the Dallas Stars were the same franchise as the Minnesota North Stars.

So with that in mind I would have liked to see gold in place of green (I also disagree with the assessment that the current logos wouldn't work with gold). As-is the team still gives off a very North Stars-esque vibe (kelly green, a logo that incorporates a letter representing the locale and an italic star), but I would have liked to have seen the gold stick around for continuity's sake. Besides, kelly green and gold just looks good. The silver sort of comes off as a hold-over from when they wanted to ape the Dallas Cowboys' look.

The roundel on the shoulders still sucks too.

All of that being said, they do look damn good. Just not perfect, in my opinion.

I may be colorblind, but "victory green" is NOT Kelly green. It may be a lighter shade, but it's NOT the same thing. No.

I love it...still would have preferred this. It's the difference between giving someone a 94% and a 100% Still get an A.

This is not better than what they wear. Sorry. The colors just simply clash, and the gold doesn't allow the green to pop when next to the black.

Huizenga joins Viola to christen new Panthers era before 6-3 win
October 11, 2013|By Craig Davis, Sun Sentinel

SUNRISE — The Panthers chose an odd way to raise the curtain on the Vinnie Viola era Friday night with a tease.

With anticipation building, the air was momentarily sucked out of the BB&T Center by the announcement that the new $4.2 million scoreboard would not be functioning for the night due to technical difficulties.

Boos echoed through the arena. Ah, but it was all a joke. Lights began flashing, music out of “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” began playing, and the huge video display above center ice blinked to life.

Before the puck dropped for the home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins, a video tribute of Panthers history played on the high-definition video board to mark the celebration of the Panthers’ 20th anniversary season.

All of the players were escorted onto the ice by youth players wearing the jerseys of original Panthers from the 1993-94 season. Then Viola joined with original team owner H. Wayne Huizenga for the ceremonial puck drop. Huizenga wore the original team leather jacket.

The debut was a success with a resounding 6-3 victory over the Penguins and victory rats raining on the ice. Brad Boyes’ second goal, on a power play in the final minute, sealed it and provided a fitting bookend to the night.

The new scoreboard, built with Broward County Tourist Development Tax money, was christened with the first goal when Boyes snapped a wrist shot past Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff from the right circle 1:55 into the game. Boyes was one of several veteran players signed just before the season opened after Viola took ownership of the team from Cliff Viner.

The lead was short-lived as Evgeni Malkin scored for Pittsburgh less than four minutes later against Jacob Markstrom, who started in goal in place of injured Tim Thomas (groin).

The turning point came in the second period when power-play goals by the Panthers’ primary hopes for the future, Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov, gave Florida a 4-3 lead.

“I think there are a lot of guys that want it tonight,” Huberdeau said during the second intermission. “I think we are working hard and we are just putting pucks at the net. Have a presence out there and we are just shooting to score.”

The other goals were scored by Kris Versteeg and Tomas Fleischmann, two of the leaders when the Panthers won the Southeast Division in 2012 to end a decade-long playoff drought.

The BB&T Center looked sharp for the crowd of 18,584 on opening night with new flooring at the entrance and throughout the plaza level. The terrazzo-style features a sprinkling of red with white on the main walkways and black on the three food courts.

There were two new lounges, additions at concessions and a couple of new merchandise areas selling throwback and vintage hockey gear.

Fans began pouring in an hour before faceoff, most decked out in the requisite red. Original season-ticket holder Bob Feinberg, of Plantation, wore a Rob Neidermayer jersey, his wife Robin in a Scott Mellanby jersey in tribute two prominent Panthers from the beginning of the franchise.

“As a hockey fan I come here to see hockey. I heard [team President Michael] Yormark say tonight on TV that it’s not necessarily the product on the ice, it’s the whole entertainment experience. It’s not,” Bob Feinberg said. “I come here to see good quality hockey, that’s what I pay for. Unfortunately, they’ve turned it into an entertainment palace.”

Feinberg is typical of the diehards in the fan base who continue to support the franchise despite little return on their emotional investment over the past decade. They do so out of a genuine love for the game but with a healthy measure of skepticism about every change of course the franchise undergoes.

Viola’s purchase of the team just before the beginning of the regular season and vow to provide the resources necessary to make it a winner has brought reason for optimism. But the 1-3 start on the road, including two blow-out losses, reinforced that it will be a tough climb over rocky terrain.

“Look, every time we have new ownership they all come in with grand ideas. We’ll see what he does. It’s all about the product they put on the ice, it’s that simple,” Feinberg said, but said Viola gets his benefit of the doubt. “He’s a Brooklyn boy, I’m a Brooklyn boy, so I’ve got to have a little confidence in him.”

Jeff Searle, of Southwest Ranches, a season-ticket holder in the early years recalls the excitement in Miami Arena when the Panthers were making their run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1996.

“The noise level was really nice, kind of like the Orange Bowl for Dolphins games,” Searle said. “I remember [John] Vanbiesbrouck in goal. We just had some exciting players back then. That was a long time ago, man.”

  1. The kids had old players names on their backs. Whooptie do! We wanted to see them do what the Ducks are doing.
  2. I can't believe Yormark said it was the experience, not the product on the ice that matters. I need to find that video clip somewhere. That's not kosher in my book.

You're just figuring this out about Yormark now? Did the empty sections of center ice seats because all the clients are in the corporate ultra lounge not tell you this 24 times last season?

Also, didn't the Panthers have a "throwback night" a couple seasons ago and piss off the board by wearing their regular uniforms for that, too? Panthers gonna Panth.

I haven't been in Florida for a little over three years (moved to Chicago), so I didn't know that was going on. When I worked for the Panthers, that lounge was just being developed.

I disagree. Those colours looked great together in 1988 and they look great now. Much more fitting for the Stars organization then green and silver.

for when Seattle inevitably gets a team.

:mojoto:

They will. I don't necessarily think its a good idea, but its obviously going to happen.

I agree, they probably will, and they'll be gone in 5 years if a boringball team arrives.

Bright green and gold is a great colour scheme. Bright green and gold and BLACK is not.

I disagree. I see kelly green and gold much like I see red and gold. With the Flames I've often said that it's a rare case where the black works, because otherwise the gold and red bleed into each other. The black allows both to "pop." I think it serves a similar function with kelly green and gold, allowing both colours to "pop" off it, creating a more vibrant look.

Green and gold always look good, hence why other teams do it:

What about my point that you left out: The idea of making a kelly green and gold alternate in the future?

Okay, you're right that the opinion I formed about Dallas' new direction is not shared with everybody. But a throwback alternate would give fans a taste of gold again. Even if it's not full-time, it should help especially to the ones who miss it the most.

Those use forest green and gold. There's enough contrast there for the scheme to work without black.

And that uniform, which uses kelly green and gold, also uses black :)

One of the links said that the league intervened and prevented the Cats from wearing their original duds. Womp womp.

In other news, firewagon hockey aside, the EDM-TOR matchup was quite a beaut.
