Farewell Homer. One of the few players in modern sports who was subpar in every part of his game (shooting, passing, skating, hitting, etc) except for one usually minor area where he was spectacular (deflecting pucks). A great off the ice character as well. He was basically a power play specialist his last 4-5 years... I'm actually surprised he held up this long, with all the beatings he took from defensemen and goaltender alike (as referees turned a blind eye to what would be slashing/roughing/cross checking penalties anywhere else on the ice).

Guys, the lockout just ended yesterday morning. Why all this quick jump into the trade talk? LET IT BREATHE.

:upside:

Pent up aggression my man.

Caps will lack scoring depth but the D is pretty deep. I have no idea what to expect from them this year. Holtby hasnt exactly been tearing it up in Hershey and Neuvirth is coming back from the Czech Republic and who knows how the adjustment from the big ice to the NHL sized rink will affect him. So many variables. Tom Poti says he's healthy when McPhee declared him retired due to his groin injuries. This is going to be intriguing.

Yeah, pretty good, but not set-the-league-on-fire good like they were last year, if there's anything fiery about dull, plodding Hitchpuck. And Elliott should regress to the mean delightfully.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

So is there a date that the new CBA is supposed to be ratified? Any word on a possible opening night?

Per Pierre LeBrun...

Pierre LeBrun@Real_ESPNLeBrun

Almost a guarantee season would start Jan 19 and not Jan 15 but it's still not 100 percent. Players' vote likely Thurs-Fri electronically

He had tweeted yesterday that the Board of Governors will vote Wednesday in NYC.

The minute LululLouongo allows a soft goal Leafs fans will be boo him and he will start to tighten up and he will fail.

You're such an idiot. You are worse than wilmorris and know :censored:. How many Canucks games have you watched?

In Vancouver the fans expected a cup these last few seasons. In Toronto all he would need to do is get them to the playoffs to meet expectations and be considered successful.

Toronto expects a cup just as much as Vancouver. Maybe even more so.

I didn't know where else to put this but this... This is the rumor that refuses to die,

http://prohockeytalk...e-whalers-back/

“Governor Malloy has formed a group to bring an NHL team to Hartford,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation said. Recently, Malloy approached at least one potential buyer, a second source said, and told the suitor the plan is to build a new arena as part of a bigger development that would be in the state, but not necessarily Hartford."

I swear, this rumor never dies, besides IMO I think Quebec City & Seattle are first in line for teams if they ever expand or teams move.

Really? I know plenty of Leafs fans from Toronto, and they'd live with the team being respectable right now. That may have been the case in the past but theyve fallen so far theyre happy with progress at this point.

Three pages in and we're already bashing Vancouver and the Nuck faithful have emerged to combat with butthurt?

I like where this is headed!

Your goalie sucks. Your team is full of ninnies and diving chumps. Your uniforms and logos are admittedly awesome, but everything else about you is despicable.

Luongo is a punk bitch. Suck it.

And, the last three Cup champs beat the 'Nuckeheads in their processes.

And, there was no nationalistic-like support from Canada during their Cup run (unlike Calgary's, Edmonton's and Ottawa's runs in the 2000s).

And, Vancouver's fans riot after a loss (and it was a blowout in Game 7, not a close Cup-clinching OT goal moment).

I honestly think all the teams except for Columbus can make the playoffs this year.(Yes even the Islanders).

The Jackets started the year 9-20-5. The last 48 games of the year they went 20-26-2. Not great by any stretch of the imagination, but marked improvement over the cluster:censored: that was the start of the year. If the Jackets can go 20-26-2 again in these 48 games, they won't make the playoffs, but they'll be hanging around through 30.

I'm waiting for when they, you know, actually OK the new deal before I start talking hockey.

That, and when the schedule comes out.

I imagine most of the owners will vote to approve the deal, but it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see Jacobs abstain. Just to be a prick.

Sorry, not the case at all. Like I said earlier, the "we'll take any progress, we don't expect a Cup" sentiment is a mirage. The very next season after their first playoff appearance since 2004 people will be expecting the Cup. Trust me. This fanbase is beyond frustrated. A few playoff appearances won't solve that.

Which is ultimately the thing about being goaltender for the Leafs. You're THE guy. Nothing's getting done if you don't excel. The Canucks? I'm sure their fans want a Cup as well, but to be perfectly honest it's not the same. The media scrutiny here is beyond anything anywhere else in the country (to say nothing of the NHL) and the fanbase is beyond hungry. To excel as the Leafs' goaltender you need to be tough as nails mentally. Louongo isn't. Florida or Tampa Bay or Nashville would be perfect for him. Not Toronto. We need a goalie who just doesn't give a crap.

Is Jay Cutler available?

Let's hope they don't go full retard like the Maloofs did last year. I know the feeling of getting the rug pulled out from underneath.
