College Football 2013 Season

Recommended Posts

The UNT unis weren't bad...they just weren't exceptional to me. However, my biggest beef is that the "Mean Green" (as it even says on the jersey) wore black uniforms with a black Eagle. The Red Wolves can wear black bc it's one of their official colors and the red isn't just a descriptor--it's a species, the "red wolf."

The Red Raiders have worn black off and on for decades, as a red and black school.

When the Blue Raiders and the Blue Devils and the Golden Flashes and the Redmen/Red Hawks/Red Storm wear black...it bothers me, because they're the color-that-isn't-black Somethings. It's counter intuitive.

But it's a whole new ballgame of BFBS when a team name IS the color. The Cincinnati Reds have black accents, but not a black jersey. Same thing for the St. Louis Blues. When your team name IS green, you shouldn't make green an accent color. If they had put Eagles on there, it might not have bothered me as much, but it's like the old mental trick where they put the word yellow in red, or the word white on a purple dot, and ask you what the color is--the mind doesn't like it, and gets confused.

(BTW, I realize the Mean Green came from "Mean Joe" Green, but still. Even if the team name is also for a person, or something else, if a team name is a color (Cleveland BROWNS, Stanford CARDINAL, etc.) and that color becomes a primary for the team...shouldn't the only jerseys they wear be white, that color that is in the name, and perhaps an alt of another color in their scheme? (For example, if Stanford were Cardinal Red and Gold, I could see a gold alt, but not a black one.)

Am I all alone here? This is just a pet peeve.

Late post....

When I first saw those NIU pictures, I thought it WAS Indiana. Hoosiers could look spiffy with that pattern in red and white. Maybe even toss in some black.

Nope. Black is for Boilers and Cam Cameron.

Alternate A&M helmet leaked?

dDVmfCh.jpg

Wasn't a helmet like this used when they played Mississippi State last year?

news_pic_0048.jpg

It is very similar. The helmet last year faded from black to maroon. This year's is either all maroon or may even fade to black/grey near the bottom.

Doesn't look like the carbon fiber was for UNT. Here is a sneak peek at the jerseys before they hit the field.

You know, the Mean Green actually look really good with black

I think this is actually a case where BFBS looks really good. LOVE the shade of green on that helmet!

Man, I REALLY hate all of the different patterns Adidas throws on their jerseys.

South Carolina vs. Mississippi State should be a great looking game tomorrow. Mississippi State is going Matte Maroon/White/White and USC will probably wear white/garnet/white.

I'm not a fan of monochrome especially if it's orange monochrome but I really like Oregon State's all orange look.

That orange is way too bright though. Look at it compared to the field logo's orange.

Oregon State's new set is downright horrible. It's such a huge downgrade from their last set it's not even funny.

I totally agree. i never thought I would say it, but I even miss this guy.

Oregon_State_Beavers_logo.png

It was ugly, cartoony, and horribly rendered, yet it had a certain charm and whimsy to it. It is exactly what a college from a weird town in oregon's logo should be.

The logo change is easily the worst part of their new set. When I heard they were getting a new logo I was actually pretty excited, because I figured that there was no way it could be worse than the logo they had. But my God, that new logo as atrocious. It looks like an acid trip.

Their old uniforms were also pretty nice too. They may have been a bit understated and plain, but it was made up for by that awesome number font, and black and orange is easily my favorite color combo in sports. Sure the logo was awful, but any time you use a logo that's a combination of a mascot and a word mark on the side of the helmets it's going to look terrible. Boise State has the same problem. But their whole current set is just a total mess. They have three different helmets, and none of them are the same design. You have that awful orange lid with numbers, the white helmet with that terrible logo, and the matte black with no logos at all. The gold/copper trim was a terrible addition, and the shade of orange they use is nowhere near the same shade that they use on the field and in the stands. They just need to abandon this set entirely and restart.

That is the perfect shade of green.

Still wishing a pro football team would run with a similar shade of green (I'm looking at you Jets, Eagles).

Baylor going the non-power conference school route of wearing black for its Thursday night game next week:

In just the last 2 weeks (Houston, UNT and Memphis have all worn black for Thursday games at home).
