"Incentive" Giveaways

The Dodgers used to give away an order of wings at Claim Jumper for scoring ten runs, and the Angels ten wings at Hooters.

The Kings have the "McFlurry Minute" at the end of the second period where a goal results in a free McFlurry coupon given out at the end of the game.

The Lakers give out coupons for Jack in the Box tacos for wins where they score over 100 and hold the visitor to under 100, and the Ducks (used to?) give out Del Taco ones for killing off a second period penalty.

What do your local teams do?

Milwaukee diner George Webb has had a standing promotion back to the 1940s that when the Brewers win 12 in a row they give away free burgers.

That hasn't happened often, so a while back they added a second deal, where people can buy six hamburgers for $5 each time the Brewers score five or more runs during a game.

The TB Rays award free pizza for every game where Rays pitchers strike out 10+ hitters.

Considering their staff set an American League record for K's in 2012, that meant a ton of free pizza. Fat bastards.

1. Its just a 12" pie. Nothing more than personal size.

2. You have to go to the a local furniture store with your stub to get the pizza coupon for Papa Johns.

Chick-Fil-A sends people to a catwalk up in the lights at the Georgia Dome and they release stuffed cows riding parachutes that sail down into the crowd. I've never caught one so I don't know what the discount or reward is.

I went to a George Webb in Waukesha once and it's still in my all-time top ten instances of being amidst the absolute worst of humanity.

Think I would just pay the $6

Whenever the Islanders scored 3 or more goals at home, you were able to get a free chili at any Long Island Wendy's the next day. If memory serves, you didn't even need a ticket stub, you just had to say something like "Let's go Islanders." They've stopped that this year. Now if they get a home shutout, you can bring your ticket stub in to some bagel place for a free bagel.

I don't think the Mets, Yankees, Rangers, or Devils have anything. I have no idea about the Giants, Jets, Knicks, or Nets.

About four years ago, the Dodgers gave a coupon for a free order of 3 mini burgers from Jack in the Box, whenever they won a game by at least 3 runs. Of course, this was the 2009 Dodgers, the best team in the NL, so when management saw how often this promotion worked, it was discontinued after two months.

The Sacramento Rivercats (PCL) used to have a pretty entertaining one. They would single out the guy from their opponet who was slumping the hardest and they'd call him out over the PA system for it before his at bats. if he struck out at any point during the game, fans would win coupons for free food at some Sacramento location. It was pretty funny seeing the reaction of opposing AAA level hitters who were already frazzled and on the brink of being released/sent back down to AA, and it was always great to get free food.

The Lancaster JetHawks have a "double double" inning where if they hit a double, a whole section gets a coupon for a free Double Double at the In-n-Out down the street.

When the Reds strike out 10 hitters, you got a free douple scoop ice cream from UDF and a free 12" pizza from LaRosa's. I also remember when I went on vacation to Myrtle Beach, when the Pelicans got a certain amount of RBI's, you would get a free roast beef sandwich from Arby's.

Growing up in the 70s, the New Orleans Jazz used to have a deal where if the Jazz scored more than 110 pts., you could redeem your ticket stub for a free order of Burger King french fries. This became a popular deal, with fans often chanting "Free Fries!" in the waning seconds of a high-scoring game rather than something like "Go Jazz!".... About twenty years ago, I went to a themed Halloween party here in New Orleans. The theme was "Nostalgia", so I went as as "the ghost of Pete Maravich", wearing a replica Jazz uni and a wrapped knee. But the piece de resistance was that before I went to the party, I stopped at Burger King and bought a about a dozen small fries. I then walked into the party and passed them out to other partygoers, telling them, "Free Fries! We beat the Buffalo Braves 111-105!" Pretty much everyone got a kick out of that.

Recently, the New Orleans Hornets and Popeyes had a similar deal, where if the Hornets scored more than 100 pts., then game attendees got a free chicken wrap the next day. I'm not sure if that dealis still going on.

It is what it is.
