New Jaguars Uniforms

I don't get what the deal is with the helmets they had at the event. Were they last minute paint jobs? If you look at any of the other photos of the helmet from before the event the color fade is much better and isn't just a straight line;

jaghelmet.0_standard_709.0.png

I noticed that too. In some pictures, the gold portion of the helmet includes the first air vent on the top, but in other pictures - like the ones from the presser - the air vent is completely within the black portion.

I think that's one of the reasons I dislike it so much. Uniforms should be...uniform. If they can't even make the helmets look the same on the first day they are introduced, they're never going to get it right.

How is that going to translate to other applications where the helmet is used as a logo, like on apparel, signs, banners, beer cans, field paint, etc.?

I guess we'll see what it looks like on the field, but after the ball snaps and players are moving in every direction, I think it's going to look like a jumbled mess.

My thought exactly. The NFL uses the helmets as a team logo in a sort of "cartoon" form, all the time. How is this going to work?

Ok, so I'm basically in the same boat as everyone else. Uniforms are decent, helmet is terrible. Nothing more needs to be said about that.

But what happened to some of these rumors we heard prior to the unveiling? What happened to the military inspired aspects of the uniform? What exactly is so new and innovative that nobody else has ever done before? Where's the chrome?

I think I'm more let down by the fact that these were so hyped as being such a break from the mold and innovative, yet there is nothing they did that some team hasn't previously done before. Crazy template? It's been done before a million times, even by schools like Fresno State. Weird clear colored shoulder inserts? The Colorado Buffaloes already tried it. Two tone helmet? San Diego State was doing that like 10-15 years ago.

Other than using a wackier template and spraying half of the helmet with BBQ paint, what's so innovative about these?

I'm not a huge fan of the helmet but it actually looks - dare I say it - pretty good in this photo.

But then you see the jersey and try clawing your eyes out.

Been thinking about this myself. Dare I say it? I think it could get even worse in this case.

No, just give Jaguar-tan a tsundere personality and assign one color of helmet to the tsuntsun side and one to the deredere.

What isn't clear from the photos we've seen, but I've been able to verify, is the TV number trim. They ARE different than the front and back numbers (similar to Seattle's design).

Black jerseys: White numbers with teal trim.

White jerseys: Teal numbers with Black trim.

Also - the official helmet graphics look better than what we're seeing in these photos. Not sure that's a good thing. I'd rather have it be vice versa.

these uniforms are awful in every single aspect.

hell. i even think the logo is a downgrade from the old logo.

i can not find a single part of this package that wouldn't make me sick, if i were a jags fan.

I thought the NFL had more class than this. Why haven't they put the kibosh on these abominations?

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

I'm trying to let it all soak in before making a final judgement on the entire uniform, including helmet.

With that being said, the uniform is very busy and "different" which I think is why people have such strong opinions on it. My initial impression is that I don't like the teal sleeves on the black uniforms. I think it would look better if the sleeves were just black. Either way, if the Jags win, I will like the uniforms more.

For those who like matte helmets, doesn't it bother you that the logo is gloss? The contrast between the gloss black on the logo and the matte black of the helmet really stands out to me (not in a good way).

It's where I sit.

I do remember the NFL vetoing Seattle's two helmets during their initial redesign '02. While that situation was a bit different, the NFL did step in. I don't think it has ever happened regarding a single helmet design. Because of this, I find it hard to believe the NFL would not allow Jacksonville to wear these.

I guess look on the bright side, it could have been worse. Imagine a white to gold fade to match the logo...

So, is using shoulder numbers with fewer layers than those on the front and back a Nike "innovation" now? Because all it says to me is "we can't figure out how to properly scale these numerals we designed".

I don't think there's any doubt that the NFL has already OKed this design. We wouldn't be here at this point if that wasn't assured already.

I think the moral of the story here is this: These are the new Jaguars uniforms. No matter how many of you complain about how ugly they are, they like them, and are unlikely to change them. If you are a Jaguars fan, and don't like them, I am sorry, and I'm sure they are too. If you aren't a Jaguars fan, and you don't like them, then who cares? You don't watch the team anyways.

Move on with your lives because the new uniforms are here to stay.

As for my opinion, I give them a B, I personally don't HATE the helmet, but I think a more subtle gradient would be better. I.e. a 20%-80% ratio as compared to the 45%-55% look I'm seeing here. The uniforms themselves do look a little cluttered, but overall I feel that they are worlds better than the boring uniforms they had before. I'm sure that the new uniforms are going to give the Jaguars new attitude, just like they did for the Seahawks last year. Don't expect them to make the playoffs though. Haha

I like actually matte/shine contrast in other applications when done in a smart way and same goes for helmets/apparel. I don't think a matte helmet with a gloss decal looks bad in all cases. I think the same color gloss decal on a matte helmet would be really tasty. Or visa versa.

I won't dismiss that a matte/gloss shell, glossy decal could look good, but done this way is not attractive.
