Crow apparently signed it on his day with the Cup in Montreal. I feel that's a bit steep, but the contract extension doesn't kick in until 2014-15, so he's still at $2.67M for this season. Backload it, get three years out of it, then dump him off on some sucker like Nonis or Holmgren, and I'm okay with it. The_Admiral Posted September 2, 2013 Share Posted September 2, 2013 I suspect Crawford's ups and downs have more to do with his skaters' control of possession than with Crawford himself. When Crawford was among the league's worst in 2011-12, it was when Toews missed several months with a concussion, Kane was playing out of position, Leddy didn't know what the hell he was doing, Hjalmarsson didn't know what the hell he was doing, and Andrew Brunette was dressing for games on a regular basis. The team got so discombobulated that the Bowmans had some crony looming over Quenneville at practice like a human Sword of Damocles. It's not that the team was bad in 2012 -- for as many goals as they gave up, they still came out ahead -- but they were heavily compromised and as such weren't able to go Globetrotting on teams like they did in 2009, 2010, and 2013. As long as the Hawks can get into that extra gear, Crawford should be fine -- and that's to say nothing of 2011, when they also couldn't get into that extra gear but Crawford still saved their asses on many a night. No excuse for those softies he gave up to goddamn Boedker in the 2012 playoffs, though.
