It should be noted that neither of those renderings are specifically designed as "official proposals." According to the AJC, "He (360 Architecture senior principal Bill Johnson) emphasized that neither was intended as a proposed design but as an insight into how the firm will approach the creative task." Says Johnson, “I do think there is a real opportunity to create an icon for the city and the state,” Johnson then said, “There is no reason these buildings can’t be beautiful and sculptural and fully integrated (into their surroundings).”

Also, regarding the churches, if the land is not acquired by August 1, they will divert to the alternate location.

I really like what I've seen so far. Both of these conceptual designs (while likely drastically different than what will be built) show significant progress from typical design and push the envelope for a stadium can and should be. I like a lot of the ideas of the "doughnut" shaped design, especially with the 360 degree screen atop the roof. In the proposal there was a large section devoted to a large bar that goes the full length of the football field. That sounds awesome. Really looking forward to what they come up with.

What is exactly wrong with the Georgia Dome it is only 20 years old

The shelf life of stadiums are about 25-30 years now. Its a shame. Billionaires buy these teams and then ask for the cities to cough up the money to pay for new stadiums. Thus is american professional sports.

I'm not sure if I would agree with that statement. I think we are seeing a transition in what has now become the standard for professional leagues. Not only that, but many of these venues are shifting the way in which they host events. More games and non-traditional events are being added to these venue's calendars. It is no longer the norm for these stadiums to strictly host the home team's games or local events. Now, it is common for each new venue to upgrade the facilities to attract Super Bowl bids, host regional tournaments, concerts, conference championships, "kickoff" games at the start of seasons, high school events, upcoming college football championships, etc.

That last bit is especially important for Atlanta (in addition to future Super Bowl bids). Now that the Chick-Fil-A Bowl has been promoted in status, it will annually hold what are considered "upper tier" bowl events as well as a semifinal to the championship every three years. In addition to these events, Atlanta is seeking to attract the college football national championship under the new bidding process. The championship and regular bowls/semifinals were a key factor in getting the new facility.

I also think that while a lot of you have referenced the age of the Superdome, New Orleans (alongside Miami) is often regarded as one of the premier locations to hold the big events, even beyond strictly the facilities.

One last thing, semi-unrelated, but it has been said that the Chick-Fil-A Bowl will likely have to restore "Peach" into the name. This makes me thrilled. If it were promoted to the "upper echelon" of bowls without the name, it wouldn't really fit amidst the tradition of the Sugar, Orange, Fiesta, Rose, and now Cotton. The sponsors come and go, but there should ALWAYS be a tradition-based name tied to it.

If I were in charge of one of those churches, I'd tell the falcons to screw off and happily turn down the money. Seriously, what's so wrong with the GA Dome anyways?

Atlanta doesn't get another Super Bowl because the last time they had one there was a blizzard and Ray Lewis probably killed a guy. A new stadium will not change either of those two "issues."

However if the new stadium allows them to get one Super Bowl, two Final fours, two college football title games and MOD EDIT (aka NBA All Star Games), the ATL will take it.

The second stadium (folding wing dome) would be a cool stadium for the Jets if they do intend of flying out of the cookie cutter stadium in East Rutherford and land in Queens, Brooklyn, or Nassau County! Yes, NYC WILL get another Super Bowl, a Final Four, and possibly the 2024 Summer Olympics if this stadium is built!

Why would the NBA All-Star game be played in a stadium? It's not Wrestlemania, or even close to being so.

Of course, after I typed that, I looked up what the highest attendance was for an NBA game. The answer? Bulls/Hawks in the Georgia Dome in 1998.

EDIT: And also, the 2010 All-Star game attendance in Dallas was 107,000. Who knew?

What's with the "MOD EDIT?" Are you trying to insinuate something???

That NBA All-Star game term was known within "the (African-American) community" for years.

Simmons made it common in 2006 after being told so by JA Adande when there still was "Page2".

Kingdome, RCA Dome, Alamodome and Astrodome have held the NBA All Star Game.

It is still MOD EDIT. The parties which are hosted illustrate that.

NOTE: the ATL still have to have an advantage to host the SEC Championship Game after 2017 with Orlando wants to have their Citrus Bowl stadium renovation done since Orlando has more hotel rooms can afford to give up more in tax breaks.

David Aldridge and Mike Wilbon have called it, MOD EDIT. Sorry for white people not to know things openly known within the black polulation as like it was the Grambling/Southern game or the FAMU/BCU game. Those within the municipality staffs want the stadium to bring in such events.

VIbrating seats? Is that a little something for the ladies or an attempt to turn the stadium into a giant X-box controller (I hate that feature and always turn it off.)

Seems totally unecessary, and it will be depressing when the Falcons are mediocre or worse and they have to activate it for a successful 3rd down conversion when they are losing by 17, and you know that day will come.

We'll have to see how viable some of these will be to build, and keep under budget.

You should see some of the crazy things that were proposed for the Cardinals' new stadium...WAY more elaborate than what was actually built.

Keep under budget? I'll go ahead and assume that was a joke.

Only a little. I guess I meant - "keep under 100% over the total construction budget".

:P
