The Hornets brand. It doesn't seem like a coincidence that the Hornets resurgence popped up the same time that a resurgence of 90s trends began. Nostalgia for teal and purple and Starter jackets seems to be a trend or fad to me.

Give the new Hornets a couple of losing seasons and this excitement about the rebrand will dissipate once people realize they're still the Bobcats.

Yeah but if they're gonna be a bad team (which theyre not terrible, actually a good up and coming team) they might as well do it with a brand that the fans are familiar with and actually embrace.

As an Astros fan who actually grew up during the navy gold-brick black years, but always loving the navy and orange, I'm ecstatic that they returned to those colors. I got a cap soon after the rebrand. So I would imagine the hornet fans have a similar attitude towards their team.

Some nicknames are just shortened versions of a person's name. "KG" is a valid nickname, even if it's just Kevin Garnett's initials. "CP3" is pretty close.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

Those examples are just half-assed shortened/abbreviated names or even more pathetic just repeated initials...first off you can't give yourself a nickname...secondly the nickname should be related to a specific trait/action of that individual.

Case in point:

  • Walter Payton:Sweetness. = Nickname
  • Ladainian Tomlinson. LT = NOT a Nickname. Also receives negative points for stealing the abbreviated initials from a all time great in the same sport.

D Wade is his nickname. LT was Laurence Taylor's nickname. Boz was Brian Bosworth's nickname. MJ was Micheal Jordan's nickname, Sir Charles was Charles Barkley's nickname. And etc.

nick-name

1. A descriptive name added to or replacing the actual name of a person, place, or thing.
2. A familiar or shortened form of a proper name.
It isn't "half-assed". Some are just that way.

Agree to disagree. I hold pro nicknames to a higher standard of having an ounce of creativity put into it.

G-23 out.

So how do you feel about calling Adrian Peterson "AD." It stands for All Day (which is a cool nickname, because of the origin). But the majority of the people try to self-correct and call him AP, which is stupid.

Its two nicknames

AD All Day

AP Adrian Peterson

I don't get what's confusing

The confusing thing is that people who don't know his AD nickname. That's why they keep correcting AD to AP. And it's confusing also because people commonly go by initials, so AD is too similar.

Go A's!

Far more offensive than the initial nicknames are half these guys who don't actually have these nicknames in regular conversation, ahem "Cole Train"

I thought it was a pun on 'Soul Train'

Maybe both, which is clever enough, but that's not the point. Point is no one actually calls him that!
