NFL '13 SEASON THREAD

I'm with Ice_Cap on Richard Sherman, hell the guy is good fun. He's not the overall classy guy, he's up their, cocky, in your face, and all that good stuff. Would I want him on my team? No. But he's good entertainment.

That's funny, because if given a chance to have one of, if not the best CB in the league, it would be awfully big of me to say "no thanks".

spoilering slightly related but not really related banter

FWIW, I still can believe in Darrelle Revis being the best, but only if the Bucs use him properly. Using an elite man-to-man corner in a pure zone defense is nothing more than a waste of his talent.

I meant him as a person, and assuming I have 2 great corners, but with how abysmal the Redskins secondary is right now, I'll take him in a heartbeat. :D

It's official. Bowman has suffered a torn ACL and MCL. That's gotta be a hard blow for the Niners, but they're "hopeful" he can be ready for training camp, but everyone's not Adrian Peterson:

Oh Kaepernick is black? Honestly thought he was a latin guy adopted into a white family.

Half black, half white, adopted into a white family, which makes the "thug" designations really odd.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Well he does have a lot of tattoos so it makes sense, really.

On a completely unrelated note, I'm watching Pro Football Talk on NBC Sports and holy crap! Former Bucs QB Shaun King got fat. I thought he was a former lineman at first.

Still eating his feelings away after the Bert Emanuel catch no-call.

So am I :(

The '99 Bucs were that close to beating the Greatest Show on Turf. For a team with no offense to speak of, that was a hell of an accomplishment.

I was SOOOOOOOOOO glad when one of my buddies had to say Doug Baldwin reminded him of Ricky Proehl on Sunday. Like, really, an inadvertent reminder of that game for no good reason whatsoever. Thanks, dude.

(I wasn't actually that mad, I'm kind of playing it up for effect.)

Few more interesting tidbits coming from this game:

The Broncos have yet to trail in the playoffs this year.

The Broncos have punted just ONCE this postseason.

Seattle has allowed just 32 points in the playoffs. Denver just 33.

The Broncos only lost one game this season (@ Indianapolis) in which they deferred the coin toss.

The Broncos have not surrendered a first half touchdown yet in the playoffs.

The Broncos are making their 7th Super Bowl appearance. 6 of those have come with #1 overall drafted quarterbacks from the Colts at the helm.

And for all you uniform fans: no team has ever won a Super Bowl in 3 different uniforms. Should the Broncos win, they will have one blue, one white, and one orange.

Still_MIGHTY's brilliant strategy of being a quasi-front runner pays off once again, winning titles vicariously!

About Richard Sherman, I meant to add that I find him - usually - to be a thoughtful, intelligent guy. It surprised me that he would find it necessary to belittle Crabtree, especially when it's clear to everyone that Crabtree is not mediocre or whatever word(s) Sherman used.

I agree with what the admiral said (I think it was him) about the racists coming out and what a shame that is. It's ignorance on a grand scale and an unfortunate side effect of the internet is giving a voice to every idiot on earth. Before technology, such a person's reach was limited to anyone unlucky enough to be within earshot. Now it's everywhere and seized upon by anyone with an agenda to spin one way or the other.

It's important to separate people from their acts, in most cases at least. I don't hate or even dislike Richard Sherman. He's a great cornerback, perhaps not the best - like teams, one may be the best on a given day but not another - and often has insightful things to say. I don't even care about the "I'm the best" part, it was more that he was an ungracious winner and I find that distasteful. That's it.

With that said, there are people of all colors in all walks of life whose actions indicate they're just not good people. Maybe they try to hurt people or are dishonest and take advantage of others, etc. That's when I dislike the person and their actions. That's subjective and to each their own. Just saying my piece.

For the ultimate hypocrisy, look no further than Ole Miss' Marshall Henderson. If a black kid did that there would be an uproar, but because he's white he's an anti-hero.

Anyway, as soon as I saw the comments the first thing I thought was, "awesome wrestling promo," followed by "this guy's dreadlocks are going to bring out all the rats."

This is a good take on Richard Sherman that validates my opinion, so I'm sharing it: http://www.forbes.com/sites/tommytomlinson/2014/01/19/22-brief-thoughts-about-that-richard-sherman-interview/

1. So the Seahawks beat the 49ers to go to the Super Bowl, and Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman made the game-saving play, and Erin Andrews interviewed him on the field immediately after the game, and he hollered like a crazy person:

2. Within seconds people on social media were calling him a fool, a thug, a classless jerk and many worse things.

3. Sherman is black, and so of course there was an undercurrent of race to some — OK, a lot — of the discussion.

4. Sherman graduated second in his class in high school and also graduated from Stanford. So not only is he not a fool, odds are he’s smarter than you and me.

5. His degree from Stanford was in communications … which might explain why, while he seemed to be hollering like a crazy person, he didn’t curse and looked into the camera the whole time.

6. In other words, he might have just been auditioning for the WWE.

7. Maybe 15 minutes later, when Sherman sat down with the Fox NFL guys, he was calm and funny.

8. If you stick a microphone in a football player’s face seconds after he made a huge play to send his team to the Super Bowl, you shouldn’t be surprised if he’s a little amped up.

9. Ninety-nine percent of on-field interviews are boring and useless. The TV networks do them anyway for the 1 percent of the time they get a moment like Richard Sherman.

10. As a reporter and writer, that raw emotion — whatever form it takes — is exactly what I hope for. That’s why media people fight for access to locker rooms. After players and coaches cool off, most of them turn into Crash Davis, reading from the book of cliches.

11. But we — the media, and fans in general — don’t know what we want. We rip athletes for giving us boring quotes. But if they say what they actually feel, we rip them for spouting off or showing a lack of class.

12. It’s like we want them to be thinking, Well, that was a fine contest, and jolly good that we won. Which NO athlete is EVER thinking.

Here is my take on Rickard Sherman.

WHO THE :censored: CARES.

Maybe he is a bit clasless for the way he acted, but seriously its notr like he hurt anyone. He is a guy who plays with a lot of emotion and may be a trash talker but he IS the best cornerback in the league. He seems to be a well educated person who does a lot of good off the field and is never in trouble. If he wants to cut a WWE like promo and rip Michael Crabtree I think that is good, it adds some spiceto the game. I like when players do colorful things.

Richard Sherman isn't a thug. He's just a loud mouth that wants attention. You would think a man that went to Stanford would be a little more civilized. Lay off the roids Rich.

Ok, this is the argument that I don't understand.

"Well, of course he's smarter than you, he went to Stanford!"

Um yeah, maybe if he had gone and gotten his medical degree. But he went on a football scholarship and got his degree in communications. That's basically the drunk sorority girl go-to in terms of getting a degree. Let's not act like Richard Sherman is a Rhodes Scholar or anything.

He finished second in his High School class with a 4.2 GPA and graduated from Stanford with a 3.9 degree. It's pretty damn impressive regardless.
