NFL '13 SEASON THREAD

And once again, Larry Bird steals someone's bag of McDonald's, only this time it was Kaepernick's and Flacco's "Mighty Wings."

The only suspense during tonight's SNF broadcast.

EDIT: I'm probably in the minority, but I can't stand Russell Wilson. Or the Seahawks.

Welcome brother. We have booze.

OK then. I'm a little surprised that there are a few people who feel the same way. I figured I'd get beat up pretty good over it.

Well, as a Seattle fan, It doesn't shock me that there aren't more anti-bandwagoners out there. All the success they've had recently will do that, you know.

And what has gotten into Houston? Didn't know it was bizzaro world and all.

Josh Freeman to Vikes, rumor has it. Why? I don't know.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not one of the people "who really know football" around here (much like Peter King, NFL.com, ESPN, etc. I'm pretty stupid when it comes to the NFL) but this is what I think part of their problem is...

I don't follow Houston closely, but it seems like they really didn't do all that much to improve during the offseason. All that really happened was their "skill" players like Schaub, Foster, Johnson, and Daniel just got a year older. The Texans weren't "great" to begin with. They were among the really good teams but they weren't quite "elite." If you stand pat in the NFL, you find yourself getting passed by pretty quickly. I think that might be part of the problem with them. But that's just me.

Matt Cassel looked pretty damn good against the Steelers last week. If the Vikings are going to replace Ponder, it should be with Cassel. Not sure what they, or anybody else, sees in Freeman.

Hell, if anyone should take a flier on Freeman, it should be Houston after tonight.

The NFL Network is still going with the title "Thursday Night Football" even though most will be viewing this game on a Monday morning.

And just like most, if not ALL Chargers-Raiders contests, this game is a snoozefest.

It's kind of fun that it feels like a west coast exclusive. Also, I love football games played on multi-purpose fields during baseball season. It'll be an anachronism soon enough, but I think it looks cool.

Maybe it's because I'm a night owl, but I'm really digging the 11:30 EST start. The NFL should do this more often. I like the infield in the middle of the football field look too. But I do wonder how much worse it is to get tackled on the dirt than it is on the grass. I gotta think getting plowed into the infield is pretty unpleasant.

I actually like going to Raiders games with the dirt field. If you're sitting up high it gives you a pretty cool perspective of how they fit both fields into the playing surface. As much as people mock the Coliseum, and for mostly good reasons, it's actually kind of a neat facility. I've got a bit of a soft spot for it of course because I saw my first MLB game and my first NFL game there, but for it's time was it kinda cool. Of course, that time is LONG gone, though.

There's an idea: Have east coast AND west coast exclusive games. Do one 10 a.m. EDT start each week so east coasters can enjoy the glory of morning NFL football, and finish up with an 8:30 PDT at the end of the day. You end up with two more "prime" games, and you extend the NFL football day.

As someone that played on a couple of completely dirt/grassless fields in high school, yes.

How halarious would it be if Terrelle Pryor actually turned out to be a great quarterback? Basically the last decision Al Davis made, in one final moment of clarity, he makes a smart decision in that hurricane of sanility that was the last few years of his life. Or maybe it's just a case of a broken clock being right twice in a day.

I'm sorry that a sporting event between two teams in California ended at a late time for people who live 2,500 miles from California. I'm sure it was tough for you to endure, being in California. Next time there's a conflict with a postseason baseball game, they should just cancel the rest of the playoffs.
