It could be a two-toned jersey starting with shiny, sparkly white going into a flat purple/black.

Sounds nice.

The Suns "dropping the ball" from the sun streak is sort of fitting.

The close-up sneak peaks were of the best parts (shorts sunburst and jersey header). They saved all the terrible stuff for the reveal.

It's like when you see trailers for a comedy movie, and you finally see it but all the jokes were in the commercials...

These aren't hideous.... but they're not particularly good.

- I like the wordmarks

- I like the "streaks"

- I even kinda like the "unfinished sun"

That said, my problems:

- Everything on the front looks like it's too low

- No purple on the home

- Butt stripe

- No trim aside from the neck

- Single-color numbers stick out

- Small orange names on white disappear

- Back numbers are far too frail

- What the hell is that on the shorts?

The purples are definitely the best of the bunch; the color balance is good.

I'm just disappointed that they had an interesting idea... and messed up most of the details.

I gotta say, I've been here for nearly ten years, and there are times where the amount of chicken little ing/worst jersey evur!!!! comments get thrown around that even surprise me. This is one of them. The Suns are middle of the pack now, at worst.

The jerseys aren't terrible, but they aren't very good either. I think the negative reaction is mostly from the disappointment of those clamoring for the return of the full flaming sun on the jerseys.

They had some interesting ideas and some that worked well. I especially like the streaks in the wordmark. But ultimately these fail in that they had too many ideas they tried to implement instead of keeping it simple with 2 or 3 ideas and using those in the final design. I wish they would try and keep in simple when they do these new designs.

The lack of color on the waistband looks terrible, and the butt stripe, aside from being bad in and of itself, just makes even more of a mockery of the overall monochrome look. These things are way-ugly. I'm surprised they didn't go with the one-piece unis the Australian national team had a few years ago.

But that's the thing people have to remember. You've gotta look at the historical context. For better or worse, the NBA no longer has teams sporting jerseys like the original Grizzlies, streaking suns, or Original Raptors. It's all conservative. This may be a bit underwhelming, but the streaks are a nice nod to the past while keeping the current conservative look that most NBA jerseys have. Was it executed perfectly? No. But is it nice to see a team at least try to think outside of the box in this current cookie cutter era? Hell yes it is.

And I say this as someone who has very little connection to the Suns other than going to school just down the road, so I'm not saying this as some biased fan. I didn't expect too much, and got about what I expected. Kinda meh, but a nice change of pace from a sole word mark, number, and that's it.

Right. I'd say they almost certainly evoke the wings of a phoenix, rising from the flames of the sun.

It might be the coolest part of the new uni, but interesting that the phoenix and sun elements on the shorts are so different than those elements in their logo package.

It's also odd how very different the color treatment is on each uniform. The orange wings coming out of the black sun on the orange shorts looked pretty bad to me during the unveiling, partially because the orange wings blend right in to the shorts. Also because the sun is black.
