The jokes are the statements from Texas A&M

Statement from Texas A&M University System Chancellor, John Sharp:

“I am proud of the way both Coach Sumlin and Johnny handled this situation, with integrity and honesty. We all take the Aggie Code of Honor very seriously and there is no evidence that either the university or Johnny violated that code.

However, at the time of his travels with his personal assistant, Fitch, who was also a student at the time. Apparently, Fitch does not count, but all went through him. He is taking the fall for all this.

Statement from Texas A&M Director of Athletics Eric Hyman:

“Texas A&M University would like to thank the NCAA staff, not only for its fairness and professionalism throughout this process, but also for the expediency of its actions. Texas A&M is a proud member of the NCAA and the Southeastern Conference and, as such, we will continue to abide by the rules governing the association and the conference. Texas A&M is committed to competing with integrity and sportsmanship, and we will continue to ensure strict compliance guidelines for our student-athletes, coaches and supporters.”

If he was playing anywhere other than the SEC and hadn't won the Heisman last year, he would have been suspended for a couple of games at the minimum.

Look on the bright side, they're making him sit in the first half instead of the second half like he would without this punishment.

Can't agree more with that. Talk about conflict of interest.

Here is more on "Uncle Nate"...aka Turtle. Johnny Football's "media coordinator".

Credit: Dallas Morning News

KERRVILLE — Nathan Fitch’s football career peaked at the high school junior varsity level here in his Hill Country hometown of 22,000.

Still, college fans across America know him by his self-bestowed nickname, Uncle Nate. They know him as Johnny Manziel’s sidekick, personal assistant and media coordinator.

So when Manziel again made national headlines Wednesday, this time with Texas A&M suspending him for the first half of Saturday’s opener against Rice “due to an inadvertent violation regarding the signing of certain autographs,” it was natural to wonder, “What about Nate?”

The suspension, and the NCAA’s acceptance of it, closes the door on the NCAA’s investigation into whether Manziel was paid for signing autographs. Unsettled, however, are questions about Fitch.

Records released to The News don’t reflect why Fitch left because such details are protected from public release by the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act....

The record reflects that Fitch played junior varsity football, though his October departure indicates he didn’t finish the season. He was in school long enough, however, to be included in the junior varsity team yearbook photo. Manziel by then had moved up to varsity, initially as a receiver.

Fitch also was in school long enough to snarl for his sophomore yearbook mug shot, the type of pose that might have seemed humorous at the time, without thought of it being frozen in perpetuity.

Kerrville ISD records show that Fitch returned to Tivy in February 2009, remained until June 2009, but then left the school for good....

The record then shows Fitch enrolled at Kerrville’s alternative public high school, Hill Country, in August 2009, but departed just two months later, October. Again, the reasons aren’t clear...

To his credit, Fitch not only earned his GED, but he also enrolled part time at Blinn College on Aug. 30, 2010, according to the National Student Clearinghouse website. The site doesn’t specify to which Blinn campus he enrolled, but one of them is in Bryan, neighboring College Station.

Fitch took classes until May 7 of this year, telling reporters he dropped out to devote full time to managing Manziel’s daily affairs.
