Like this except for the script. The "P" trying to be a sail and weird unconnected "a" are simply poorly crafted (I know it's not you but rather their own bad script). I'd say refine the script and this would be an awesome look.

I think the Brown and Gold contingent would settle for those in a second.

Here's Mike Dee, new Padres CEO, giving the lowdown on brown. It ain't happening.

Scroll down to the second clip.

It's too bad mgmt can't see the benefit in going with the beloved brown/yellow Padres.

You want fickle fans, stay generic blue. You want fervent die hard fans, go brown.

Nah, the color of uniforms has no impact on diehard/fickle fans. You want fervent fans? Get good baseball players.

In fact, if you're a fan of the team because they wear brown, but not a fan because they wear navy, then you have indeed defined the word "fickle".

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Ooh yay, new Padres management is just as dumb as old Padres management. Good for the rest of the NL West.

Brown must be forgotten, life can always start up anew.

Exactly. And the idea that you need brown unis to have dedicated fans is ludicrous. What the Padres need are some good teams, maybe a world series win at long last to create dedicated fans. Pads fans need a reason to come out to the ballpark to be re-energized... not new pajamas.

I don't think you need brown uniforms to create dedicated fans. They probably have dedicated fans and fan fervor (ticket buying) will grow when the team plays better.

But for us uniform nerds, I think a brown uniform goes very far in re-establishing that the Padres actually have an identity. It also sets them apart from all the other (red) white and blue teams in MLB. I'd suggest that their boring/common colors contribute to why they are not exactly MLB's most recognizable franchise. I really don't have a sense of how quantitatively important this is. Maybe it's not. Winning would help more than uniforms, but brown certainly would be distinguishing.

As for "new pajamas", brown does not have to be pajamas. If they go with brown, they don't need to look like the mid-1970s look. Brown can work with a more classic baseball uniform as evidenced by some concepts we've seen on this forum.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Some team should use brown as their color. I forget who, but someone made a case for the Indians switching to brown when they eventually drop Wahoo and re-invent themselves. The more I think about it, the more I endorse that idea.

Admiral has been peddling the brown and red Indians for a while. Someone made a recolored concept of it. I personally dislike it greatly, and not just because the team has been playing in the same city for 113 seasons with red and blue uniforms (with the possible exception of a few years). I think that red and brown is a terrible color combination for sports. It might work on a sweater or a plaid shirt, but I can't see it working well in sports.

Holy crap, I may be onto something!!

Mike Dee was with the Miami Dolphins before going to the Padres, and this tweet from Miami banker Rod Barreto implies that Dee may have spearheaded their recent redesign. While I do like the Dolphins' new look for the most part, I don't like how little orange is in them (especially how there's almost an equal amount of navy in there). Also, in the above clip, Dee says that he started with the Padres (between 1995-2002, per Wikipedia), and while San Diego wore the Navy/Orange in 1995, didn't the orange start through that time period?

My conclusion: Mike Dee doesn't like orange (or any color that's original), but likes navy. San Diego, I feel for you. Both your teams have management that's hellbent on using their pet color navy.

I'm not saying we're not fans because of the navy, I'm saying many don't feel an overwhelming love for the team because the navy is not really Padres in our "souls", simply generic. When a team stinks year after year, teams have to have heart string affection to fill the seats.

Do you think the Cleveland Browns would have the same level of die hards if they changed to blue/yellow yet continued to stink? There would be a level of disconnect that makes it easier to pay a little less attention to the organization.

I stole it from Bohob. I think he put it forth and then I banged the drum for it.

I don't think it's a terrible combination, if done right. As I've envisioned it for the Tribe, it basically works out to being a red and black scheme, just with not quite black. Brown would ideally be limited to outlines and the crown of the cap (and BPSts and jackets and stuff), with red scripts and numbers as usual for them. It allows them to line up with the Browns a little bit and gives off a kind of Rust Belt vibe. I figure everyone is going to pick out their one navy/red team to fix, so better that than making the Twins purple and yellow or green and red or green and blue.

Oh, and yes, Clevejacked.

I agree. I tried doing a Padres concept that had brown and red, and I just couldn't find a good harmony to them. Either the brown is too dark or the red is too bright. Brown and yellow work, brown and orange, but I've just not found a good mix of brown and red.

Which is a shame, because it seems like it would be a totally unique color scheme in all of sports.
