Origins behind the Green Bay Packers iconic “G” logo

It was 1961, just before the start of Green Bay Packers training camp. That's when Coach Vince Lombardi had the idea of putting a logo on the helmets of his players for the very first time. A new design concept, the Packers "G," was born. It's a concept has stood the test of time, thanks to the careful original work of its designer, St. Norbert College adjunct faculty member John Gordon.

When you look at the 1960s Green Bay Packers logo, it looks more pointed like a football would be shaped. Today, the G is more rounded and the outline thicker.

It's a shame we didn't get a good look at John Gordon's finished design in the video.

Georgia picked up the 'G' in 1964, with permission from the Packers, just to clarify for those who like to say "Georgia stole the G" or "Green Bay stole the G from UGA"

Just to clarify I was joking, as I have seen people say something similar to what you just did in other threads

Is it just me or does the Bears "C" borrow from the elongated football shape as well? And for a team so close in proximity seems weird to be similar in approach.

I thought they used a toilet seat as inspiration for that logo. :P

I thought they stole it from the Reds who play in Cincy which I've been told is a toilet.
