That's cool. Like the Native American/Indians thing, some people so "honored" like it and others do not.

The rest of us can still have opinions on it.

Painfully condescending, as expected. And very similar to the Indian thing, too. For at Illinois, I heard an effete white kid from Evanston, the craker-est of the crackers, admit that "the overhwelming majority of Native Americans aren't offended. But we know better than them. They should be."

That kid was an :censored:.

There are :censored: s on all sides of an issue. Doesn't mean my opinion is invalid, because some :censored: s share it, any more than a pro-Redskin-name is less valid when Limbaugh joins in on that side. The arguments stand on their own.

I like Duck Dynasty and the Robertsons. But I have to skip the parts when they're hunting. I understand people who have to hunt for food. But for people for whom hunting is not a necessity, for people who can buy their meat from a store, I don't get it. I just don't understand the attraction.

the thing is they eat everything they kill, so they are killing it for the food, they dont mount most of the stuff, like i think ive seen a stuffed squirrel and thats it.

They eat or sell what they hunt, so they're actually saving a ton of money on food.

and since they own all the land they hunt on they dont have to pay an annual club fee or anything, and when something like a deer can last my family a good couple months worth of semi regular eating you do save alot on food

It has its purposes... dance, a quick turkey hunt and then maybe get some grits.

Ugh. Why are people so proud of being so fat and so dumb?

If this is the end result of watching Duck Dynasty, you can have it.

I'm gonna preface this by saying I absolutely can't stand most reality shows, but I actually really like Duck Dynasty.

DG, that's a little bit of a condescending attitude to take IMO. I totally understand your feelings towards excess gluttony and ignorance, and absolutely agree with you. But the Duck Dynasty guys aren't like that. No matter the authenticity of the show, it promotes hard work, self sufficiency, family values, and the importance of a proper education (they're ALWAYS talking about how their degrees helped them get to where they are). Is it a bit hokey? Yeah of course, but it's so much more refreshing to see a show that has some personality and doesn't glorify sex and drugs and promote the idea that one's looks are the most important thing in life. And really, some people are just fat, and some people are just from the rural south. Not every southerner is like Honey Boo Boo.

I'd rather watch a thousand episodes of Duck Dynasty than see one second of culture ruining filth like the Kardashians or Jersey Shore. Those people should be flat out ashamed of themselves for being such an enormous waste of resources and such a strong contributing factor to the way young people view the world. If they were all rounded up and publicly executed, you wouldn't see me complain.

The Robertsons aren't stupid at all. They built their own company selling duck calls and became rich. They are godly, intelligent (except for Si) people. Much better celeberties and role models than the Kardashians or Miley Cyrus.

What do you mean by "godly"? They are god-like? Followers of god (i.e., religious or spiritual)? Clean (i.e., "cleanliness is next to godliness"?)

In either case I am not godly (unless you mean "clean") and like to consider myself intelligent. I don't want this to (further) derail the thread, but I don't know about "godly" as a response to the accusations that they are stupid.

As to whether they are stupid, I proudly can I say I have no idea as I have never seen the show and do not have any idea what they did (or whether they were just "found") to get there, whereas I could not escape Honey Boo Boo to the point that I knew those people were morons. So taking at face value that they built a business and worked smart/hard to get where they are, I still think there is an element of trying to display a not-so-smart image. Fair or not, a lot of people are going to pre-judge them.

Willy has a masters degree from an ivy league school. All of the robertsons except for si have a degree, martin is working on his masters, and might have it now. So yes they are very intelegent

Intelligent even.

It's that they are a redneck family with lots of money that can do what ever they want with it, and do the fun stuff we wish we could do. they are religious not godly, that was just probably a wrong use of words, phil is a preacher, and so is one of his sons that only appeared in one episode recently. They have a prayer at the dinner table at the end of each episode, and phil likes to pull out his bible to more often that not prove why he is right. They teach alot of good values, about what it means to be a good person, and success. The show is very good, and good for society.

Thank you! Well said! :flagusa:

Use of scripture to settle arguments aside... (and "Bible as arbiter" can be both good and bad depending on passage cited, context, and relevance).

It's not good for society if people get the wrong lessons from it. What does your average TV viewer take away from the show? Do they get the messages about the need for education?

I don't hunt. It's never interested me. It's not a way I really want to spend my time.

But it makes sense for several reasons. While it may seem "mean" to shoot an animal, it's not nearly as mean as eating pork from a pig that spent it's entire life laying in a pen that does not allow it the room to turn over. The mass production of supermarket food makes for true cruelty.

So if people hunt for food (and obey DNR regs, etc. to not deplete populations), I certainly would have no place to criticize until such time I become a vegetarian (which I do not plan on).

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

What you write makes sense, and I'm not meaning to criticize people who hunt for food. I guess my point is that I don't understand hunting for sport. I mean, how can it be enjoyable to watch an animal die?

If this ignorant, bigoted mindset is the result of living in Seattle, you can have it.
