2013-14 NHL Season: "We Are North American Scum"

It's weird that this years Ducks will be the best ever in their history. The 2007 edition would pound them IMO.

That '07 team would've had a better record if Giguere and Pronger played the whole year. Giguere missed over a month, and Bryz struggled a bit during that stretch.

That Western Conference in 2007 was basically an arms race between them and Detroit. Who else was a contender from the West other than the Wings and Ducks that year?

This makes me upset to this day, but the Sharks were up 2-1 and had a 2-0 lead in Game 4 against the Wings in the 2nd round. The Sharks could only muster 9 goals in 6 games against IMO, a very beatable Wing defense(besides Lidstrom who is god like, it was Matheiu Schneider, old man Chelios, Andreas Lilja, Brett Lebda, yes that Brett Lebda, and Kyle Quincey in his very first games). The Sharks would've had a tough go against Anaheim, and wouldn't have expected them to win, as Still Mighty said, that Ducks team was built for the playoffs that year, but that will go down as an embarrassing choke. Not to mention the Sharks blew a 2-0 lead in game 2 as well.

That series right there, cost me a big screen TV. There have been a few moments in sports where I've been absolutely furious at the outcome, and that series is definitely in the top 3.

With Colorado folding tonight, the Ducks regain the West's overall #1 seed, with two games left (whereas all other West #1 contenders have only one game left).

This would be good for them...if the Stars weren't locked into the 2nd Wildcard slot (cue the grief from Still Mighty and Funky Bunky).

That 07 sharks team was a disgrace against the wings. They lost game 2 with a 2-1 lead in the third. They lost game 4 with a 2-1 lead in the third. Then they didn't even bother to show up for games 5 and 6. That prolonged suck was, to me, even worse than Teemu Selanne missing a wraparound into an empty net in 2002, probably the best Sharks team ever.

I rather play Dallas than Minnesota.

Also booooo to having to play the Penguins but hey you never know.

It's high risk/high reward. Could you imagine what would happen to that Penguins bandwagon fanbase in Ohio if the Jackets won that series?

not even sure it's such a high risk thing, either. Pittsburgh went 5-0 against Columbus this season. The Jackets, great story and everything, won't be anyone's pick to win this series. If they lose then, whatever, the expectation was met. If the Jackets win? HAHAHA.

Yeah, sorry about that game tonight Mac but this game mattered for the Lightning as well and you guys had already pulled the other two meetings over the Bolts this year as it was.

beating Pittsburgh in a seven game series would be almost as good as winning a championship for me. It would probably be my favorite sports memory ever, but one of my teams hasn't advanced in the postseason since 1995 when I was 8. 0 for the last 11 postseason matchups.

Matching up with Pittsburgh almost guarantees that streak to continue and in the process we'll have to deal with the worst people in sports. It's 2005 Bengals-Steelers all over again. All I ask is that they win one home game.

Maybe Fluery will bring his recent playoff performances back for another go around.

I don't know, stupid things happen in the playoffs and if Bobrovsky plays really well, it could happen.

I'm least looking forward to everyone bitching about how bad Jackets fans are because there's so many Penguins fans in the building.

It's stupid. They opened up ticket sales a couple of days ago to people with Ohio adresses which I kinda get. That doesn't work when the eastern couple tiers of counties in the state can't even watch the Blue Jackets because they're in Penguins territory...

Factor that in with the large number of pseudo-Pittsburgh fans in Central Ohio who will just go away when they're bad again and meh, not overly looking forward to it.

Chico Resch is retiring, which bums me out. Guy's a character. I love how amazed he his by the most quotidian plays. "Awwww, gee whiz, look at that play from Zidlicky, whoooooaaa, look at him go up the ice and make that pass!! WOOOWWWW!!! Take away those three goals the Flyers scored and the Devils would have a one-goal lead!"

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The Avs inexplicably start Berra, and the Sharks take advantage for win #50 on the year with the hat trick from the one who is made of glass. The Blues still have a shot at the division.

I understand wanted to give Varly the night off, but starting Berra over Giggy makes no sense at all. This is one of the few moves that Roy's made that made me scratch my head.

Luckily, the Blues lost again, so no harm no foul.

The Blues not only continue to slump by making fundamental mistake after fundamental mistake (their energy level actually looked good for a change), they've now lost yet another forward in Patrik Berglund. If you're keeping score at home, that's 7 forwards injured (5 olympians), and 6 in 4 days.

Even if they remembered how to play hockey, they'd probably be less talented than any playoff opponent they face (depending on who is and isn't able to come back for round one).

So arguably the best season in Blues history and the best roster the team has ever iced ends the year needing a miracle—just to advance to round two. Because Blues. It's not fair. It's just not fair.

They still could get a "get out of first round free" card (i.e., playing the Wild)

You mean the team that just beat them 4-2 in what should have been played like a "must-win" by the Blues? They've lost about 4 guys since then too.

The Blues had previously dominated the Wild in the season series and even outshot them 45-15 in this game, so maybe there's something to it. I don't know.

Deep down, I still believe the Blues are going to win the Cup this year. But I'm also a hopeless moron.

It's payback for the Cardinals.

You misunderstand. The Cardinals win because of the rural Eastern Missouri shaman who sacrifices the luck of other St. Louis teams so that the Cardinals may win. Which means a reign of terror must had to identify this person and put an end to his practices.
