2014 MLB Changes (logo, uniform wise, etc)

Love the new Braves alt. Wish more teams had a flag on their uniform. I'm sure Paul Lukas' dumbass has something idiotic to say about it, but I love it. Much better than a :censored:ing Spanish language jersey.

Really? Why?

Do you have the same issue with the Brewers' Japanese jersey? Or their German or Polish ones?

I'm pretty sure we've had this conversation before, and you'll revert back to what many others do and say I'm a racist because I don't like foreign language jerseys.

I'd prefer teams not change the language on the jersey. That's how we celebrate someone's heritage? Just reinforces the lack of assimilation to me. And the Spanish ones are much more prominent, thus my issue with those specifically.

I agree, all those jerseys both in MLB and NBA are silly, surprised the NBA did not have jerseys with chinese team names this year.

Well, according to the NBA 2014-15 Changes thread we have, those are coming next year.

P.S. I'm no expert on the demographics of Wisconsin, but is there that big of a Japanese market or following for the Brewers to have a Japanese jersey? Mariners, of course. The California teams, probably. If the Yankees had a script to do these types of things, maybe. But Milwaukee?

Yeah, I was going to say this is at least the third time I've seen Gothamite try to bate Legend on this issue. Each time has gotten the same response, which was subsequently ignored.

I guess I'm in the middle on this issue. I dislike the concept of foreign name jerseys in general, but they don't bother me much if they're well done, and not just pandering crap with a foreign definitive slapped on a normal jersey. I also don't go nuts every time I see a flag on a cap for any reason, but I'm sick of teams bastardizing their uniforms with regularity to make few bucks and donate a few cents of it to a veterans charity. I'd probably be fine with the Padres keeping their camo alts as a twice a year thing (not every week), but I'd get rid of all S&S hats and camo jersey/hats from games. They can still sell them without the teams having to screw up their look to promote them. The White Sox wearing a red cap with pinstriped jerseys or a white crown/navy brim cap with their black jersey and pinstriped pants made me want to punch random people.

Glad someone else noticed it.

You know who else hates lack of assimilation? The Borg. But they were misunderstood, too.

But you'll be happy to know, Legend, that if anyone speaks a word of Spanish in the new Braves alt - even a phrase as benign as "fish tacos" - the stars in the wordmark burst into flames and it reverts to the old alt (sans tomahawk, cause otherwise that'd be racist). It's a new fabric innovation from Majestic called Americauthentication.

I had to look up your reference. Then I saw it was a Star Trek reference, and didn't even want to respond. But I did anyways because assimilation is not a bad thing. Not assimilating is ignorant. You don't have to abandon your past, but to refuse to adapt to your new surroundings is self defeating and disrespectful in in a way. Assimilating is what helps make this country United. Why do we need to shove down everyone's throats the differences rather than celebrate the things that make us the same?

Thank you good sir.

Patriotism becomes jingoism when you market and sell it. That's my problem with offensive jerseys like the Braves'. I love my country too much to respect people who turn it into a cynical cash grab.

I find the foreign languages jerseys far more offensive. So what if they wore these jerseys but refused to sell them? People would want to buy them. It's supply and demand, that's why basically every uniform and nearly all accessories can be purchased. You don't know the intentions of the owner, maybe he's just patriotic like me. But the consumer drives the market.

I don't think I've ever touched on the intentions of the owner. I certainly have never intended do. My contempt is for the teams who cynically exploit love of country with this nonsense.

Your patriotism leads you to like these jerseys, my patriotism leads me to despise them. Neither one of us has cornered the market on patriotism - yours is every bit as genuine, heartfelt and legitimate as mine.

Really? "LOL YOU'RE SO NOT COOL LIKE ME BECAUSE STAR TREK IS LAME"? That's what you're resorting to in the name of getting a pot shot in?

I guess I just fail to see the exploitation and cynicism with it. I've always felt that any time someone does someone with good intentions in regards to patriotism, it's a good thing. There are many places the American flag is placed and or used where technically it shouldn't be. I'm ok with it in some instances because I'm not going to knock someone for sporting the great flag of my country as long as it is respectful.

Maybe the owner is only doing this to pander to patriotic people, just like the foreign language pandering, I'm not sure. But patriotic pandering, as bad as you may find it, still is not as awful as putting foreign languages on jerseys, in my opinion at least.

Um...no. Not at all. I've never watched the show, thus I didn't get the reference. When I realized it was from a fictional program, it lost any credibility (not that it likely would have had any anyways given the context). I would have had the same reaction if he referenced a fictional TV show or movie, even if I liked it.

I applaud your pathetic and failed attempt at trying to read into what I was saying.

I kinda liked the blue- lettered roads for the Red Sox. Maybe they can bring them back as an alternate.

I liked them too

I know its all personal opinion, but I am thrilled we are back to red lettering. I've been waiting years to get back to this look. Those blue lettered jerseys (that looked black), were so drab looking, were brutal. Can't wait to see the world champs sporting a bright, red lettered jersey on opening day. Finally!!

Nice .gif bro. You think we can proceed from here without your internet tough guy act? Yes? Cool. Let's continue.

CubsFanBudMan's point was mostly in jest, but he used reference to a fictional work to make it. The use of a work of fiction in no way undermined his point. I'm not why it would, really.

I'm really glad the Red Sox went back to the red script on the roads. It strengthens the connection with the great home uniforms. If they could work out a way to add the placket piping to the aways without interrupting the flow of the wordmark it would be awesome. If they wanted to be perfect, they could modify their logos so the cap "B" and the jersey "B" are in the same font.

1. You are more charitable about the "intentions" of corporations than I am.

2. Any merchandising of the flag to earn a couple extra bucks isn't "respectful". Not to me.

Give it a few more years.

I am not a fan of the 'heritage' jerseys even though only a few teams do it. If I didn't know any better, thanks to the Brewers I would believe that Milwaukee is the most ethnically diverse city on the entire planet.

So the phillies announced their plans to celebrate 10 years at citzens bank park and show this logo on their facebook. Ummm shouldn't it say 2014?

1000954_10153851777405492_441810704_n.jp

I think that is right. 2013 would have been the 10th year.

1st - 2004

2nd - 2005

3rd - 2006

4th - 2007

5th - 2008

6th - 2009

7th - 2010

8th - 2011

9th - 2012

10th - 2013

11th - 2014

This would make 2014 the 11th year at Citizens Bank Park. I think this must have been an idea for last year.

Damn, those Tiger jerseys.......scary stuff, even though i know it´s a joke concept.

.

But cappital92 said NBA jerseys with chinese characters are coming....that is a dumb move, then the NBA is mixing politics into sports, because alot of people have issues wth the way China handles human rights, animal cruelty, and the way they "train" children to win olympic medals, and other stuff, like pollution of our earth.

Stick to the Los Bulls stuff , please

There are fans at that Jags game - clearly that is from a fictional program as well.
