2014 MLB Changes (logo, uniform wise, etc)

I wouldn't say so. Wearing their uniform from their inaugural season is a good idea

The D-backs wore purple hats in their inaugural game. The white hat was an alternate, used rarely in '98.

That doesn't doesn't disprove my statement though. Rarely worn or not, it was still worn in their first season

Go A's!

That's not nitpicky at all.

Exactly. Designers understand how big that difference is and non-designers will inherently get that it simply looks better due to its consistency.

You realize I was being sarcastic, right?

The entire point of this board is to be nitpicky.

Which has been the case since the "Babe of the Week" thread had to be removed.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

The A's changed up their BPs a bit. They look pretty terrible. I don't know why they insist on making white the primary number color. The simplified logo on the chest looks pretty amateur as well.

Just saw this linked from the White Sox twitter:

Brought Back by Popular Demand

Those 1983 Winning Ugly uniforms that were such a big hit with the Sox players and fans last year will be worn this season as alternate uniforms with a new batterman cap. They wont be worn only on Sundays at home as they were for the most part in 2013, but rather anytime the players decide they want to wear them.

An incredibly dumb move by the Sox. And it gets dumber! Those crappy BP caps with the batter logo on them? Those aren't BP caps. They will be worn during games, even though they didn't exist when the throwbacks were actually worn. The Sox will, however, keep the 1983 All-Star Game patch on the sleeves, despite the facts that it's not really a throwback anymore and they wore those uniforms for five seasons (three of which had no sleeve patches).

It's bad enough that the team has allowed the players to wear the black alternate jerseys 50-75% of the time over the last 15 years, now they will allow the players to wear something which isn't even featuring the teams' current colors for the majority of home games. I swear to God, if this causes a "groundswell" among people my age nostalgic for their childhoods, and the team changes back to red, white and blue with the batterman logo full-time, I'm going to take a good five years off from following baseball.

This is what the Reds are going to look like for road games this spring training.

Dumb.

The Jays understood, the Mets also did as for the the Royals but the Reds had to be dumb enough to do the opposite...

Yeah it's dumb. When they changed to the current look in 2007 and deemphasized black I thought they were on their way in the right direction. Nope. I was wrong.

I'd welcome it. It would give me a good excuse to buy a second white hat. The one I currently own has the MLB logo outlined in gold and the new era logo on it...which is too high. Still a rare hat that I wear as I sweat like a pig when it's hot as hell outside.

This is coming from a Cubs fan...but,

I've always been a fan of the "Batterman" logo over the more contemporary black/white look they've had since the start of the 90's.

I agree. While the black is a slick look, I really do love the 1983 look alot. There's just something about it, man. I called it though that the Sox would wear that new hat with the throwbacks though, but I didn't think they'd disregard the actual 1983 hat to begin with. Not a wise move, even if I do like Diamond Era.

Also, isn't it funny how people are complaining about the '83 look being an actual alternate now when the Brewers have been doing the same thing for years? I don't like it as much as the next guy, but if they want to keep both looks then more power to them, it's better than losing it forever or rebranding and making a mistake in said rebrand.

That's because the Brewers' 1982 look is actually a good uniform, whereas the Sox' 1983 uniform is a gimmicky, dated turd of a uniform that gets nostalgia points for being associated with one of the rare Chicago baseball seasons where some sort of title was won. "Winning Ugly" didn't just refer to a gritty style of play.

I'd rather have the '77 half-disco-collars come back than endure these duds on a regular basis. And now they're a fauxback on top of it. Delightful. Keep dismantling your on-field identity just like you did your farm system, White Sox.

So the White Sox are making their often imitated, at least at the college level, '83 throwbacks a permanent part of their uniform rotation.

I hereby decree that the Cincinnati baseball team henceforth be known as the BLACKREDS.
