I hate when my team wins and staves off elimination with our best pitcher pitching in the next game still giving us an opportunity to win the series! Damn them!

So you honesty have no fear of Wainwright pitching a Game 7 at Busch. None. If you don't, then you're a hell of a lot more optimistic than I am.

I would have given more plight of an actual comeback if Clayton was given the Game 7 assignment instead of Friday's. It would have been kind of like a boxing card; the undercard (Game 6) would be Ryu vs. Wakka while the main event (Game 7) would be Kershaw vs. Wainwright.

Instead, I don't see Wainwright losing another game. Not in a Game 7. Not at home at Busch. Not even with Ryu opposing him. I just don't see any plausibility in this.

Hence, why I'm angry at the fact that after five games, after out-hitting St. Louis in four of the games and holding the Cardinals to a sub .200 batting percentage, the Dodgers could only muster two wins, with two games left in Missouri.

So are you trying to say that you'd rather have lost today in Game 5, rather than having the opportunity at all to play in Game 6? And are you saying you'd rather lose Game 6 just because you'd have to go up against Wainwright in Game 7?

You're :censored: ing insane.

It's all about having the opportunity. You're season is on the line in Game 6 so you put your best pitcher out there. It's all about getting there. Anything can happen man. Jesus. It's not like I want either team to win, but god damn, you're pathetic.

Seriously.

It's just a game, that we play and watch for fun. Be happy that you get to watch your team play another game, with the possiblity of playing another. Don't act like it's the end of the war that your about to lose, because it's not. If you don't enjoy the ride, and all you care about is the result, you're not going to have any fun.

Baseball is just a game, played by people you don't even really know. If they lose, nothing will happen to you, and if they win, nothing will happen to you. You'll still be your same crappy self either way, so try to have some fun with it.

The pity card being played so routinely as a Cubs fan is pathetic, but it's all I've got so if you've got something better I'm willing to hear it.

Well, if I were a Chicago sports fan, I'd probably hang my hat on the greatest defense to ever take the field in the NFL - the '85 Bears, or the fact that the greatest NBA player ever led my team to six championships. Then again, you're too young to have experienced those things so I suppose you go with the Black Hawks winning two Stanley Cup titles in the past 5 years. B)

No, I'm just saying that I tend to look, after five games, who the better team is, and who the better team should have been.

For all the data and statistics the Dodgers have put out in the NLCS, they only have two games to show for it. Yes, I know how much of a powerful asset Kershaw and Ryu are, but it's friggin' St. Louis. If this were a game in May or June against the Marlins, they can get away with cheapening their chances at RISP and crappy managing, but against this team, the margin of error is this close to zero.

I'll watch, I'll root, and hopefully, the team continues their offensive breakthrough in Game 6 (and hopefully Game 7), but then again, I'm a glass half-empty person. The best shots of the Dodgers winning this series would have been either in five or six games. But the fact that they have to go through Wainwright in Game 7 at his home makes me just irk, considering how damn close those first two games were. The pitcher best equipped to match Wainwright in a Game 7 would have been Kershaw, but the current rotation has me less upbeat. That's just me.

Still though, it's baseball; any kind of s#it can happen.

But isn't "having fun" the contrary of someone's favorite teams when they're in the postseason? It's only considered "fun" for fans of other teams, or general fans of that sport (i.e. fans of teams not involved in such particular series). If someone's team is battling through the playoffs, especially into the championship rounds, it seems like unmitigated torture for every bounce, every call, every move made. Rooting for your team in this particular case can't be enjoyed because it could be that moment when disaster happens, in which for some people they'd remember it more vigorously than if the team does something great.

Maybe in retrospect, when the off-season happens or when a team is eliminated, do people look back on their teams and appreciate the playoff run they had, even if it ended badly. But in the moment, I wouldn't consider rooting for a team "fun" as much more as "torturous" because of the fear of failure.

I'm pretty sure other people feel the same way.

tl;dr I want my team to lose so I don't have to fear them losing.

I didn't say that.

Funky just said "enjoy the fact your team is still playing right now," and all I replied back was that for some people, if their teams go this far, they can't enjoy it as much as they want to, with myself being part of that group.

For those still on the whole "everyone hates the Cardinals" discussion:

I get that this is a stupid, tongue-in-cheek social media list article, so I don't really care about too much of it.

But the Stan Musial part is enough to get me a little frustrated.

First off, it's just an unnecessary effort to discredit one of baseball's greatest players (let alone during a season that's being played in memorial to him). And then it's just kind of dumb.

He may not have had the speed of Mays, the eye of Williams, or the power of Aaron, but he arguably had a combo of those things that none of them possessed.

And then discrediting him over World War II? GMAFB. The US was involved in the war from 1941-45. Musial played the first 3.5 years of his career from 41-44. Then he missed 1945 for HIS OWN SERVICE TIME. Musial then resumed his career and played another 18 years.

Ted Williams, by the way, played his first 3 years from 1939-42, then missed three seasons for his service time, and then played 15 seasons.

Like I said, I understand it's all one big troll job, but that part got me a little riled up.

It appears that Alex Avila has left the game after getting hit in the face by a foul tip. He had a concussion earlier this year in a similar incident so I wouldn't be surprised if he sustained one this time too.

I was listening to the game on my way home. They said he left because of his knee, not his head. So hopefully there's no concussion issue.

I sense a lot of rage about 2006, although the writer's a Mets fan, so that probably explains it.

FWIW if you let Molina hit a home run in that situation you pretty much deserve to lose.

Avila was taken out after getting plowed over at home plate -- At least he made the out.

You obviously didn't understand my point at all...

If they fail, WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN? ARE YOU GOING TO DIE? No, you're not going to die, NOTHING is going to happen to you. If the Dodgers lose game 6, all will be fine, and if the Dodgers go on to win the World Series, all will be fine. The Dodgers wikipedia page will change a little, and the Dodgers will be able to rip you off $35 for a "World Series Champion" hat. That's all.

When you watch these games, it's ok to be a little nervous because you'd like to see them win, but it's not torture. Torture is getting your dick cut up into tiny pieces. Torture is slowly getting each fingernail ripped off, while your eyes are gouged out with a spoon. Torture isn't seeing Juan Uribe ground into a double play.

tl;dr- It's not torture, and you shouldn't get so worked up over a simple ball game that has no barring on your life. If you let yourself get so upset over this game, you're pathetic and you need medical help.

They are in HS but still...

The only marginally non-cringe inducing one was "teach me how to Bucky" and even that was pretty bad.

Just stop. They are all horrible and embarrassing.
