ninersdd
Yeah but all bigger cities(which are more liberal) have fairly significant LGBT populations, not just SF, Seattle, Chicago, and Boston, etc. I believe cities like Atlanta, Houston, and even Salt Lake do. dfwabel
Last week, (before the shutdown) the Census Bureau said that Ft. Lauderdale had the most gay couples households in the USA, 2.8% of the city population. The LGBT community puts over $1 Billion into Ft. Lauderdale in tourismith dollars alone. It is smart, niche marketing as most have much more disposable income.
NJTank
Those are some cheap tickets. With any of these pride celebrations I think those that protest only help the cause of the gay rights movement. If some team or private business wants to reach out to the gay community it always helps them get good publicity and to maybe make new customers/fans and it does not hurt anybody. Protestors should find some thing better to do. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

Burmy
If I were planning this, I'd go one further and have it be for a game against one of the Bible Belt teams (Canes, Preds, Stars)...that would be touching all bases.
NJTank
I'm offended that this has to be a thing, honestly.I dont think its that bad, the Mets have a bunch of theme days and nights. Irish, Italian, Jewish so I would think its in that category. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

FiddySicks
It would be more appropriate the Sharks did this Why? San Jose has a recognisable gay neighbourhood? Doesn't the Bay Area have a fairly significant gay population? They do, but San Francisco is more known for it's LGBT population than San Jose. And San Francisco isn't even so much known for the amount of gay people that live there, but more for the fact that it was the forefront of the gay civil rights movement. rmackman
If I were planning this, I'd go one further and have it be for a game against one of the Bible Belt teams (Canes, Preds, Stars)...that would be touching all bases.I think if they tried to do that, the idea behind it would just get lost on everyone anyway. The point is that they're trying to be progressive regardless of who it's against. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports
The_Admiral
Also, I'm willing to bet that most hockey fans in places like Dallas -- and really, for that matter, anywhere -- tend to be younger, more educated, and more progressive than the norm, so it would wind up being a pretty empty gesture. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
