And just when you thought it couldn't get any worse....The Fresno Grizzlies will be the Tacos for a game.

Those are awesome, actually.

I'm pre-ordering one of those hats. Awesome design and promotion! MiLB at it's best! (don't get any ideas NBA)

Is the game sponsored by Del Taco? That's what I think of looking at that hat.

All the local taco trucks have a competition called the Taco Throwdown every year, so they wanted all of you to recognize it. Not just the locals. FYI local news said they are already sold out of the hats and new era is making a 2nd order. They said you may have to wait up to 2 months to get your hat. I was on the Fresno Grizzlies grounds crew in 98 & 99, it woulda been cool to get that hat for free back then. We had the sucky bear throwing the ball as our hats.

Off topic but Del Taco is coming to the east coast in New Jersey.

I hear good things about Del Taco from West Coasters

Direwolves On Staten Island

The boys of summer better take heed -- winter is coming to Staten Island on August 8. And where there is winter, there are direwolves.

So I'm headed east the first week of August... for a wedding, yes, and no, that's private, so you don't get to hear any more about it... but I am going to see my editors and publishers and agents while I am in town, and do some other fun stuff... including a ball game.

That's the night the Staten Island Direwolves will be playing the Lannister Lions

259828_800.jpg

Normally the home team is the Staten Island Yankees... but for one night only, they are changing their name to the Staten Island Direwolves, and will be wearing special jerseys. The visitors, normally the Hudson Valley Renegades, will be clad in gold and red jerseys emblazoned with the Lion of Lannister. So it will be Winterfell v. Casterly Rock once more.

The first 2500 attendees that night will get free baseball caps with the Direwolf logo (above). Also, we will be having a special fund-raising lottery on behalf of the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, and the winners will take home the actual Stark and Lannister game jerseys worn by the players.

259975_600.jpg

I will be signing books for 400 lucky fans as well -- only 400, the line will be capped, so get there EARLY if you want a book signed -- and the good folks from Wild Spirit will also be on hand, with one of their wolves.

For more details, check out the team website at http://www.milb.com/index.jsp?sid=t586

If you're a baseball fan... or a Stark supporter... do drop by, and root, root, root for the home team. If the Direwolves lose, I may have to kill another Stark.

So the Lake Elsinore Storm are giving this beauty away this Saturday to celebrate the 15th anniversary of their affiliation with the Padres. It of course harkens back to the Padres logo of the era when they first affiliated.

Thankfully, they abandoned their original plan for "Girls Night", with the front of the jersey featuring the scene where Alison Williams receives analingus at the kitchen sink.

Zosia Mamet will still be given free admission to "Bark in the Park" night.

Per Uni Watch and WACH Fox, the name and logos for the new MiLB team in Columbia, SC (the soon-to-be-relocated Savannah Sand Gnats) will be unveiled next Tuesday, August 4th: http://www.wach.com/sports/story.aspx?id=1236397#.Vbj8vvlVhBd Any guesses on a team name?

Was there any type of name the team voting for this one? Or is this going to be a complete surprise to everyone?

I feel like there wasn't, but looking through their website, it appears that they did have a name-the-team contest last September, a good 8 months before it was even announced what team was moving there (http://www.columbiaproball.com/news/2014/1/name-our-team/). I don't think that they ever released any of the names that they had received, though.

A complete surprise would be nice for a change. If Brandiose is in charge of the logos again, I'm really hoping to see another well-done branding effort like that of the Yard Goats.

Per Uni-Watch, seems that the SWB Railriders logo will be relatively short lived.

The middle section of the article states, "The team will still be known as the RailRiders but will have a new logo “which really emphasizes SWB” for the 2016 season. Minor League Baseball, however, will not allow the team to unveil the logo until the end of this season."

Not looking good for the Porcupine conductor.

What can Brandiose do with a ream of Dunder Mifflin paper?

This is the ONE time I wish the Giants were still affiliated with the Grizzlies and that Sergio Romo was making a rehab appearance for them.

The franchise used some variation of this from 1989-2006, so I'd expect it or something like it to make a return as a cap logo.

As we've discussed in this thread, MiLB teams do this all the time in an attempt to be all things to everyone. This will be their nostalgia play.
