Well, so far nothing on the Carlos Beltran to Kansas City front, so it looks like KTAR 620 actually DID jump the gun. But they also mentioned that the D Backs and A's had discussed a trade that would send Yoenis Cespedes to the D Backs for Tyler Skaggs (PENCIL STACHE!!!) and A.J. Pollock, but that deal died. It's a good thing too, because it doesn't make a lot of sense for the A's and a TON of sense for the D Backs. Skaggs has been good, but he's basically been the odd man out in that rotation so he's expendable. And while Pollock is a great up and coming player, Cespedes is an enormous upgrade. It would've made the D Backs MUCH scarier in the NL West having Paul Goldschmidt and Yoenis Cespedes in the same lineup, and it wouldn't have cost them much.

Arizona Sports(KTAR 620) is usually pretty good about their sources. But when it comes from the Dan Bickley Variety Hour then that's when I am skeptical about any kind of sources. And the co-star is a pretty good friend of mine, but that show is a train wreck when it comes to anything.

So much hot stove action for all these MLB teams, and all the Giants have are leftovers. Expensive leftovers, at that.

They don't really need that much though. Last year turned into a total disaster, but that was mainly due to injuries to key players such as Angel Pagan and not having a solid back end of the rotation. Plus I don't really see anyone that's been picked up yet that would really be a good fit for them at the right price.

Plus, there is still a pretty good second baseman out there that's still available that the Giants could splurge for (although they really shouldn't), especially if they were open to trading Pablo Sandoval (again, they shouldn't), so you never know.

Twins were in the mix for two veteran catchers: Pierzynski and Salty.

As a fan, I hate A.J., so I don't know how I'd feel if we'd have snatched him up. He still produces at age 36 and is great defensively...but he goes to Boston.
Salty is a great bat and would've been a great boost to Minnesota's lineup...but he goes to Miami.

The only two notable catchers I see still on the market are J.P. Arencibia and Kurt Suzuki. At this point, I don't know if Terry Ryan signs one of those two, another catcher, or just goes with Josmil Pinto on Opening Day. Pinto played just about 20 games this fall and batted great, but with such a small sample size you can't be too sure with a 24-year-old. Joe Mauer and Ryan Doumit have been said to never be playing catcher again, so this is somewhat of a dilemma in the Twin Cities.

John Buck's still out there. He has some pop and the Mets pitchers loved pitching to him. But he's never been a high average guy and he hit 9 of his 15 homers last year in a crazy-good April.

I was really hoping they'd get Pierzynski. I know he's an ass, but I really believe that his attitude was key to turning the Twins from 1990s perpetual doormats to 2000s contenders. I think they could've used his presence again, now that they stink. I don't think they are going to make a move (curse the Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps trade!). I am a bit nervous about Pinto/Hermann/Doumit at catcher, but at least Gardy's adoptive son Drew Butera is not around.* I did like what I saw of Pinto last year, but as you say, that's not enough to make me comfortable.

*Oh, they'll probably just trade Buxton and Sano to get Butera back.

I think JP Arencebia would be a good pickup for the Twins. Last year's disaster was probably an abberation and if he underperforms then they could just go with Pinto. Platooning Pinto and JP isn't the worst of ideas.

If by "his attitude" you mean "trading his stupid ass for Liriano and Nathan," I can see that.

That worked out too. But before that. Before Joe Mauer came in to hit for a high average (a now defunct stat, right?), AJ was an asset. Or, if you will, an ASSet. I cannot really back it up but I (and other know-nothing Twins fans) sort of felt like he provided an edgy leadership in the clubhouse (hey, we're a major league team too!) that maybe went away with Torii Hunter.

Of course he can't pitch, so either way, the Twins will have their 4th straight flirtation with 100 losses.

That's still one of the worst trades the Giants have ever made.

As much as I love to bash our front office, I'd like to believe they aren't stupid enough to move Buxton or Sano...at least I'd hope so. Sano's attitude (pimping home runs, etc.) is something that the Twins clubhouse will honestly need. This team needs someone that's outspoken/a polarizing figure, and I can only hope Sano can bring that to the majors in two years or so. A.J. is also known for that personality, like you said. I feel like signing him would've been smart, because he really does still produce good numbers. I hate the guy, but he could've helped quite a bit this season.

Also: forgot about Buck. Wouldn't mind him, either, but I'd like J.P.

You know what the Twins need? Pitchers who get guys out so that the team doesn't give up like 800 runs a year. I think that would help the Twins out a lot, the expedited recording of outs. I don't see how A.J. Pierzynski being a douchecanoe stanches the flow of runs against. If anything, his total inability to throw out baserunners will make them worse.

It looks like the Mariners are about to offer Robinson Cano a nine year, $225 million contract.

http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=10086275&src=desktop

There are also reports that they are trying to get David Price from the Rays.

It looks like the AL West is about to get even more interesting.

Getting Cano and Price would be HUGE... Only thing I don't like is the price the M's will have to pay to get Price (giving up the team's top prospect and other stuff for Price).

If it does happen, their might be some hope in the horizon for Seattle fans.
