I've never heard of another school using the gila monster as a mascot and always wished they made better use of it.Fun fact: their mascot costume was the inspiration for Homer's Safety Salamander in The Simpsons. Marge even references it when she says "You look like the mascot of one of those horrible colleges from the south."
