FINALLY! Someone who "gets it" when it comes to D3! I hate when I hear "D3 doesn't offer scholarships." We do! We don't, however, offer athletic grant-in-aid.

You do realize that when people say, "D3 doesn't offer scholarships," they're talking about athletic grant-in-aid, don't you? People don't assume they offer zero institutional or federal aid for average students.. The implication is accurate.. They don't offer scholarships.. The most common "scholarships" people refer to are athletic scholarships.. I've never heard anyone use the term "grant-in-aid" outside a school setting, particularly when referring to college athletics..

If you live outside the New England and Great Lakes states, this is NOT common knowledge. I've coached at the D3 level for 13 years and I can assure you that MOST people outside of those areas assume there is absolutely zero financial assistance for D3 athletes. I spent 8 years coaching at DI and at that time, I too, used the misnomer "athletic scholarship" instead of the correct "athletic grant-in-aid". I know what I'm talking about.

There is zero financial assistance for D3 athletes.. However, there are plenty of scholarship opportunities for D3 students.. They can still get institutional and federal aid.. Perhaps everyone isn't privy to the specifics, but everyone isn't even privy to the specifics around D1 either.. I've coached at the D2 level for 6 years now, and have a pretty good grasp of how it works as well.. I just think it's a bit nitpicky to suggest that everyone is incorrect who says D3 athletes don't get scholarships, when the implication is that they're referring specifically to athletic scholarships, and therefore are correct.

There is zero financial assistance for D3 athletes based on athletic ability, athletic talent, athletic involvement, or athletic leadership. Every single one of my athletes at the D3 level has received financial assistance. Nitpicky? You bet. You might liken it to what this board, and the members of it, (and coaching for that matter) are all about: details.

i dont disagree with that, but to tell someone that their statement is incorrect, when the implication of their statement is accurate is a bit of a stretch.. every sport at every level other than D1 football is comprised of athletes receiving various forms of aid.. even "walk-ons" at every level are typically all receiving some sort of assistance..

i agree that, like this board, it's about the details, but to imply that everyone is wrong who says "D3 athletes don't get scholarships" (when they are clearly referring to athletic scholarships), is a bit of a stretch and overly nitpicky (and kinda sounds judgemental), imo..

I go to a DIII school and I'm a sport management major. When we talk about DIII, we say athletes don't get scholarships(obviously athletic scholarships). People who know DIII know this, but I wouldn't be surprised if more people don't know this. It's all in the language of how you speak. I have to clarify to people that athletes don't get athletic scholarships. People just assume every school gives out athletic scholarships to the best athletes when they don't.

One thing I've been meaning to ask for years now and either forget to or just lapse of activity, how come the mothership doesn't have the NE Revolution logo without the wordmark underneath? Is that still the official primary mark or have they shifted to a more Timbers-esque wordless primary?

Today's Laval Rocket announcement had me thinking back to the Toronto Roadrunners. Some digging found me these shoulder logos which are not on the mothership.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.
