BrandMooreArt 3,766 Posted December 13, 2013 Whatever Jeff Gordon's team goes with, it will never be as great as his 2007 look.Yea i like the flames too. Why they added yellow to the bumper ill never know. Still that was better than anything hes driven post Dupont/flames
wonderbread 382 Posted December 13, 2013 I like this version better, the blue flames on the front of the 2007 version clutter the front too much.
Jungle Jim 837 Posted December 13, 2013 Since the subject is the #3, I'll take advantage of this opportunity to post this, which Earnhardt drove at The Winston in 2000...

jc... 219 Posted December 13, 2013 The shape of the #3 that Dale Earnhardt had and the #3 Austin Dillon uses are slightly different. The Earnhardt version is more rounded at the top and bottom. The Dillon version is flat at the top and bottom. http://twitpic.com/40vatr
TheFallenHaveRisen 263 Posted December 13, 2013 This is the best that Gordon's ever look IMO (Besides DuPont)Sorry I could't find an actual picture of it that was the full view, but you get the idea
BrandMooreArt 3,766 Posted December 13, 2013 having a couple of days to think on it, i've decided i have no problem with Childress/Dillon continuing to race a #3 car. it is the RCR number. but i dont like that they are using Earnhardt's style. lets not kid ourselves, you look at that number and there is only one person that comes to mind. it is as good as Earnhardt's logo, because to a driver, a number is his identity. with all the black and the same style/font, it feels like they are not honoring Dale, Dillon isnt the person to do that, but are cashing in on his brand. would be interesting to hear Kevin Harvicks opinion on this
jc... 219 Posted December 13, 2013 Its not the same font. Its close. But its different.
BrandMooreArt 3,766 Posted December 13, 2013 Its not the same font. Its close. But its different. No its not the exact same. But cmon man, you know whats up. You're not going to look at Dillon's number and say it's not Earnhardt's

You're not going to look at Dillon's number and say it's not Earnhardt'sIt would also help if he used the number from the same side of the car so they were angled the same, the top of the number is always more forward than the bottom on the car
infrared41 9,101 Posted December 13, 2013 For my money, this is Jeff Gordon's best looking paint scheme.

You're not going to look at Dillon's number and say it's not Earnhardt'sI know its similar. And I don't find it disrespectful that they are using. If Dale Earnhardt were alive and happened to retire in 2003, someone else would have been driving a black #3 car. The same way Brad Keselowski drives the blue #2 car that people remember Rusty Wallace driving.
Max@lcs 6 Posted December 13, 2013 Well here is one thing. The Toronto Maple Leafs have only retired two numbers. 6 and 5. These numbers were retired because the guys wearing those numbers (Barilko and Bailey) died as a member of the maple leafs. It was a way of honouring them. I am not saying that the 3 should not be used because Sr. is not only one of the greatest racers in history but because he died while racing the number 3 car. It should be retired as a sign of respect. IMO
Batman Jones 6 Posted December 13, 2013 Its not the same font. Its close. But its different. That is most definitely the same font. It's a different weight and more narrow, but it's the same font.

Alan Kulwicki was the defending/reigning Cup champion in 1993 when he died before the Bristol spring race, and there's no one calling for that number to be retired.

He didn't die in the car, it was a freak helicopter accident, also Earnhardt has a much bigger legacy than kulwicki

That's where my statement came from. NASCAR won't retire numbers.
GuitarPunk2512 3 Posted December 14, 2013 Im not a NASCAR fan but I always loved how painted and chrome wheels looked on cars, almost an old school look back to earlier days of racing. the black wheels are boring
