Phil
I might be off, but isn't that Jacques Plante, of the Montreal Maroons, the first goalie to wear a mask on a regular basis?

Phil
My bad, it's actually Clint Benedict of the Montreal Maroons, who first wore a mask after Howie Morenz (of the Canadiens) rang a shot of his face that broke Benedict's nose and cheekbone on January 7th, 1930. Benedict only wore it for 2 games because it impaired his vision. Almost 30 years later, Plante introduced the first true goalie mask.
zoneranger
Boy, it doesn't take long to get bumped off the main page anymore. Clint Benedict wore this mask, the first goalie mask in hockey, during the 1929-1930 season.
