mafiaman
Ugh. Another case of Nike completely ignoring a school's actual colors for the sake of pleasing the 18 year old crowd that wants "kewl" new designs every 2 weeks. A college's identity should not be like an iphone where you get a new one every 6 months. I have never been a fan of the Yankees or Penn State, but if this keeps up I may have to become one. Do you know if this was nike offering this design up to asu or did asu come up with the concept themselves and for nike to produce? Either way, asu has to sign off on it.I'm betting it was Arizona St.'s idea. They and Arizona both have new copper themed uniforms each year. It's the state mineral or something I believe. There used to be a Copper Bowl in Arizona.Michigan (at least in the UP) has a long history of copper mining...doesn't mean the color looked good when Michigan State decided "hey, wouldn't that look great with green and white?". pianoknight
Bingo. Copper mining is/was a HUGE element in Arizona's history. (Element?! Geology jokes!)Anyway, the Copper Bowl turned into the Insight Bowl and now the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl, IIRC. 5th in NAT. TITLES | 2nd in CONF. FiddySicks
The use of copper is amazing.Sigh. Goddamnit, Arizona State. WHY DO YOU KEEP TAKING ALL OF MY MONEY?!?!I was totally content on not getting a jersey this year until I saw that. Now I pretty much have to.Honestly, the more I see those the more I wanna see ASU ditch the Maroon and Gold For Grey and Copper. It actually fits the school tremendously well and it would be pretty unique.ASU's colors are the one aspect of their brand I've never been terribly crazy about. They always give out gold shirts for football and hardly anyone ever wears them because it's a downright AWFUL shade of gold. And when you get a black ASU shirt (which a lot of people do) it basically ends up fading to that grey color anyway in a few weeks due to becoming so bleached out by the sun How does dark gray fit the school tremendously well? That's akin to saying anthracite and black should replace green and gold for Oregon. Arizona State's colors have been maroon and gold. It's been that way for a really long time, even before you were a student. No reason to ditch it because Nike.Well, copper mining is basically what built this state, for one thing. Second, there are a million ways Nike could tie in that grey color if need be and make it work. The thing I like about it is that it kind of reminds me of the buttes that the stadium sits in the middle of. Hell, keep the maroon instead of grey for all I care, just use that awesome copper color! And it's not like ASU hasn't changed colors or even their mascot before. They started out as the Owls, changed to the Normals(!), then went to the Bulldogs before becoming the Sun Devils. coogrfan
South Florida intended to substitute "The Team" for the player names on their jerseys. However, it appears that doing so is now illegal for anyone other than the service academies. http://api.viglink.com/api/click?format=go&jsonp=vglnk_jsonp_14084692905317&key=1686da1044273e8a4540f89500b72810&libId=c56ddb2e-d0bd-4e15-a8b5-0485d81184ca&loc=http%3A%2F%2Fcsnbbs.com%2Fthread-698994.html&v=1&out=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncaa.org%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2FMEMO_WordsLogos_Team_Jerseys.pdf&ref=http%3A%2F%2Fcsnbbs.com%2Fthread-698994-page-2.html&title=Calm%20Discussion%20about%20USF%20%22The%20Team%22%20Uniform&txt=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ncaa.org%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2F...erseys.pdfBy interpretation, only military service academies may substitute words such as Honor, Integrity, etc. for the player’s name on the back of the jersey. This interpretation applies only to the military service academies; civilian institutions may not substitute other words for the player’s name. A single manufacturer’s or distributor’s normal label or trademark that does not exceed 2.25 square inches in area also may be included....Teams wearing jerseys that do not conform to this rule will be asked to change into legal jerseys before the game and before the start of each quarter until the jerseys are changed. Officials shall charge a team timeout at the start of each quarter the illegal jerseys are worn.
