Sodboy13
I was browsing a flickr stream of old Christmas catalogs at work yesterday, and look what I found in the 1980 Sears Wish Book:So, for at least one season, the NASL had a concerted, league-wide merchandising push. Pretty nice quality from the looks of it, too, given that the NFL replica jerseys of the time were basically screenprinted t-shirts.$14.99 for the jerseys, $7.99 for the shorts, $2.99 for the socks, if you were curious. the admiral
The Minnesota Kicks look pretty neat. So do the Whitecaps (their design predates the White Sox!). Soccer jerseys can look really cool when they don't have ads for airlines and cell phones front and center.

the admiral
I've always wanted to do a megaconcept of the English Premier League without jersey ads, but then they keep changing the teams every year and I have to start over.
tommytimp
General Mills was in on the push, too. I got a Rochester Lancers hat by saving prof-of-purchase seals from Kix boxes. The Minnesota Kicks featured in the advertising on the Kix boxes, for both of the obvious reasons.
