Michael Schumacher in coma after skiing accident

I heard about this earlier. Very scary news. Apparently he was even wearing a helmet. He must've hit that rock HARD.

As someone who grew up in a ski resort town and who has worked at a ski resort for a good chunk of my life, I can't even begin to tell you just how dangerous snow sports are. I've lost several friends to the mountains and have had to assist in the pickup of the bodies of people who have died taking unnecessary risks while skiing and boarding.

Always be cautious, folks. I hope Schumacher can pull through.

When I heard ski accident, I immediately thought of Sonny Bono. I hope the ending is different in this case.

Interestingly enough, that happened at the ski resort I worked and skied at most of my life. Deaths on the slopes are so much more common than people would expect.

Skiing is a dangerous sport. Any time u go down hill a slip can happen and then you just have to hope u get a soft landing spot.

Which too often it isn't, particularly if there's been any kind of warm day where the top of the snow crusts over into ice. Found that out the hard way once myself when I killed/stunned the nerves in the back of my head the only time I ever snowboarded. Took painful months for the nerves to rewire themselves.

I hope he'll get through it! It's a very huge thing here in Germany the last days. He may be the most popular athlete ever in Germany. Just everybody likes him!

Even more then soccer legends like Beckenbauer? I will always think of Deutschland as a soccer nation first and foremost, but I will take your word for it.

Actually yes. He kinda started the F1 hype in Germany and kinda like EVERYONE watched the races when Schumacher was still driving. He is also the reason why Vettel isn't very popular here. Is is just too much like Schumi, and there has to be just one, the one!

I was just thinking what's up with his condition, because it's been close to a year now. I assumed he's going to live the rest of his life in a vegetative state, but this unusual article title says that he's 'slowly waking up'. Yeah, it's gonna take more than that if they want people to feel a sense of good news, but at least if shows that his family isn't pulling the plug on him...
