Bulls "Windy City" Logo on Apparel Question

Recommended Posts

Okay, let me preface this by saying that I am in no way a basketball fan (or a Chigaco fan for that matter), but I am a huge hat person, I wear them everywhere. Never would I really buy a Bulls hat, I just have a question about the logo choice that they use for a lot of their hats and other apparel.

Why does that dammed "Windy City" logo appear on almost ALL of the Bull's hats?

I believe it was once an alternate logo, but why do the Bulls not use just the regular logo on the hats that they sell? Is it just a stupid fashion thing? Does everyone just think that logo looks "cool?" All other NBA teams use their primary?\I know at this point I'm rambling, but for some reason this really bugs me. I wonder if I'm alone...

It just drives me crazy. I just need some closure and if anyone can shed some light on this that would be great. For those unfamiliar with what I'm talking about, here are some (ugly) examples.

These are just a few examples, I wanted to show that in every adaptation there's that stupid "Windy City" cloud.

Anyway, thanks for anyone that knows why this is!

The "Windy City" Bulls logo is a Hardwood Classics logo. I know that there are 59Fiftys with current logos now, but up until a year or two ago, all New Era made was Hardwood Classics hats, so that's why it's on so many of them.

It's a fauxback logo, as far as I know. I'm not sure the Bulls ever used that. Their current is their original as far as I know.

And I agree that it is on way too many hats.

I own a lot of Bulls stuff, starting my collection in the early '80s. (R.I.P. Orlando Woolridge.) None of it has that logo.

It was used as a secondary logo in the 60s & 70s, although it was never used on any on-court clothing. AFAIK, it was just used for things like the schedules & other minor bits of merchandise, before being phased out in the mid-70s.

The early logo I have seen on pocket schedules, etc. is a different version of the current primary, almost more cartoonish.

If the Windy City logo was used, it's much more prominently used now than then.

This whole discussion reminds me: why don't the Bulls have an alternate logo other than just the Bull head by itself? Why not a side view of the head or a C formed out of Bull horns or something like that? (The Magic are another team that spring to mind that still need a better secondary logo.)

As Bulls unofficial spokeman..we are too classy for that.(secondary logo without the Bull) Now as for that windy city logo its just a Chicago thing. Never was an official logo but faux back as was mentioned above. However the Bulls have been given permission to sell that one official merchandise all over as well as on the NBA shop website.

I'm pretty sure the reason for that logo is the fact that New Era doesn't have rights to current NBA logos. If you notice, all their NBA merchandise is old logos and ABA teams. And then this Bulls logo, which I'm not sure was ever an official logo.

Nonsense. No team is ever too classy for a secondary logo. My Lakers developed the "L" ball about a decade ago, and it works quite well for them. Plus, look at Boston and their shamrock.

Bulls could try using the "C" thats on their warm ups. Even a bold "B"..But within the last 20-30 I have never seen an attempt by Chicago to use an alternate logo. Never. Do I want them to yes. But I haven't seen any attempt so I'm cool.

Me calling us classy was just a way of saying we don't have an alternate cause we haven't had a need for it before. But i do believe they can use one now.
