Well, with Dakar & the roar before the 24 starting up, I'd figured it was time to start a new thread with 2014 seasons slowly beginning. I figured it was time to start up a new thread for the new seasons coming upon us. Although it has started off in a somber note due to Michael Schumacher's accident (get well Schumi). Here's some ideas of what to look forward to in the year..

Formula 1:

- The new regulations, how will that affect the racing?

- Will Vettel get his 5th straight?

- How will drivers do with their new teams? (I'm hoping Kimi dominates but that's me.)

IndyCar:

- Ganassi with Chevy, Andretti with Honda, will it help?

- Is it Will Power's time?

- Will Helio make up for last year or will some new stand up?

Everything else:

- Will Webber & Porsche finally stop the dominance that is Audi?

- Will Toyota finally take the steps needed to be considered a threat?

- The newly formed United States Sportscar Championship, will it grow?

- V8 Supercars now has 5 manufactures, any chance it will grow?

Well, there's a lot going on this year & I want to start off with this....

We may also have a new factory team in WEC soon...

http://www.racer.com/nissan-committed-to-lmp1-wec-entry/article/328811/

Nissan says it is fully committed to entering the LMP1 class at the start of the 2015 World Endurance Championship.

"Any motorsport program is dependent on the decisions of a company's board of directors, but we are pushing ahead as though it is all happening," said Nissan global motorsport director Darren Cox. "We are making decisions, entering discussions with suppliers and on target to be at Silverstone [the opening round of the WEC this year and last] in April 2015."

Cox would not discuss details of Nissan's plans, although he did admit that the hybrid powerplant's internal combustion element would be petrol-powered.

"We are not doing this in a conventional way: it will be a global project, so NISMO [Nissan's motorsport arm in Japan] and Ben [bowlby, designer of the ZEOD], will be involved," he explained.

Sorry, no link, but reports are that Michael Shumacher may never wake from his coma as he has not responded to the treatment given to him by doctors.

Thoughts and prayers with him & his family.

Thoughts and prayers with him & his family.

Fears grow that Michael Schumacher will be in a coma for the rest of his life

Michael Schumacher will have to adjust to being a very different person

Of course, this is all speculation at this stage.

First look at Force India's 2014 car, the VJM07. (taken from their twitter account).

BekoH3aCEAAs2f1.jpg

First impressions... not a fan.

Of the scheme, car or both?

Scheme mainly. I liked the previous season's paint scheme a lot. I think the black weakens the orange and green and does not say 'India' as much (even though the team is based in the UK and owned by Indian businessmen). Supposedly the black is meant to represent a panther.

I can't judge the look of the car. This is only taken from a 3D model after all and not the real thing. They say that they have 2 options for the front nose. This one is the 'banker' which complies with safety rules, however they are currently developing a 'better' nose to be tested at Jerez and are hoping it will comply with the crash safety test rules too.

All of the info can be found on their twitter @clubforce. There is also a guy @scarbsf1 who has pointed out some interesting things on the car compared to last year from this image. He has a pretty decent website too for all things technical in F1 - scarbsf1.com

Some news from Williams....

http://grandprix247.com/2014/01/23/williams-on-brink-of-announcing-martini-racing-deal-for-2014-and-beyond/

Word has leaked out that Martini will be the title sponsor of the Williams team for the 2014 season and beyond.

Reports have emerged in Italy linking Martini – through their Martini Racing banner – with Williams, thus marking a return to Formula 1 by the stylish drinks brand, who have previously sponsored Brabham and Lotus in the seventies, and more recently had a minor partnership with Ferrari.

It is expected that Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas will unveil the Martini Williams Mercedes FW36 on the morning of 28 January at Jerez, before the first day of testing gets underway.

The sides and top just say the code name of the car, so I imagine it's a way to get a sponsor before the opener.

I saw Lotus' one on tumblr, and it looks pretty similar to 2013

McLaren: Yep they no longer have Vodafone and the MP4-29 is just a placeholder. Most cars will not be fully covered in sponsor logos yet.

Lotus: While the livery is almost identical, the actual car has some new elements. Not to mention the double pointed front nose where one side is longer than the other.

lotus-e22-886x566.png

This is to get around the regulations for the size of the tip on the front nose, as only the longer one counts as technically the front. There are no rules as to the positioning of this. There has been some questions on twitter whether they would change which side is longer depending on the orientation of the circuit (more corners either left or right) but most people seem to think that the effect on the car will be negligible and so this will not happen. It would also mean having to safety test two different nose cones.
