bosrs1
I'm actually quite bummed about this change. I absolutely loved the change from the Clash to the Earthquakes, and their color scheme is one of my favorite in sports. I even love that cheesy soccer ball fault line logo they have. They don't have a cheesy soccerball faultline logo...Well, I meant this logo (Richter scale, fault lines, whatever)But I see that they took that out in the 2008 rebrand. Oh well, still a cool logo and great color scheme IMO.And I absolutely swear they once used a logo with a cracked soccer ball. Maybe I dreamt that though. EDIT: Ahh yes, here it is. Absurdly awesome.Either way, I'm kinda sad they're phasing out the 90s cheesiness of the MLS. I totally understand why, but it was kinda what made the MLS unique to other soccer leagues. Oh well. The former was phased out when the team resumed play in 2008. The latter was never used by the team in any official capacity. It was in the original logo guides and such that were released with the richter scale version of the logo, but never found any use by the team. Evil Doctor
Kinda of weird to be celebrating a 40th anniversary for a team that was playing for just a little more than half that time...
poser
Kinda of weird to be celebrating a 40th anniversary for a team that was playing for just a little more than half that time... If you stretch it,, the team has been around for almost 40 years..http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Jose_Earthquakes
andrewharrington
They went from hinting at red being added....to a little more red....to all red on flyer.....The red is mainly for heritage use (notice how it highlights the word "heritage" and is heavily used on all the 40th anniversary stuff). I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry [The postings on this site are my own and do not necessarily represent the position, strategy or opinions of adidas and/or its brands.]
Est1980
Burn the old one with fire!!!! All these logos with {city name} ribbon-ing out of a shield should be throwin in a wood chipper. Ok, maaaaaaybe not all. I like TFC. SJQs logo is basically a crappier version of the Dynamo logo ( pretty much the Ravens of MLS )which is another one that needs to be redone. Man, that soccer ball in the current SJQ looks like straight up MS clipart lol.
justen
Well, the Houston Dynamo were the Earthquakes first, so I'd say that would be why the logos look similar. Keep the basic form and modify to your new location. When the 'Quakes came back they just used the existing logo.

It wasn't until they rebranded to Dynamo that the logo suddenly looked fairly similar to the Quakes logo.
BigRed618
This is a coincidence. About a year ago, I made a Quakes concept with red, blue, and black. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who thought those colors looked awesome together.
Jarred Revolver
This is what I've found, not sure if it's the official one though. Not too bad IMO.
WSU151
This is what I've found, not sure if it's the official one though. Not too bad IMO.T'here's a good chance that is it, I think. The J and the Q look little awkward. Suprised there's no trademark on it. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. Gothamite
Yeah, those two letters are pretty bad. I don't know. I loved the idea of the offset chevrons, but they just don't work well in a roundel. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. FiddySicks
The font might be off, but late last week the team's facebook and twitter profile photos were changed to a word mark:This reminds me of a software company. And the logo posted above reminds me of the corner of an office building. Fitting for San Jose, but still terrible.
