PhantomDreamer
Maury Brown, a Portland resident and well-known authority on the business of baseball, breaks down the issues surrounding the recent efforts to promote MLB-to-PDX. Current MLB to Portland Effort Big on Dreams, Short on AnswersIt doesn't look like Portland is going to be the A's new home anytime soon. Why is Portland so attached to the old Memorial Coliseum? gosioux76
The issue isn't with Portland being attached to the Coliseum, but a pair of special interests setting up roadblocks to demolishing it. In particular, architects have deemed the structure architectually significant. Veterans groups have also voiced opposition to demolishing a building meant to honor them, even though the memorial part of the coliseum is hidden underground. The Oregonian also weighed in on this A's-to-Hillsboro angle.
PhantomDreamer
I understand the Veterans' angle but architecturally significant? The Memorial Coliseum to me was just a smaller version of Market Square Arena and the Oakland Coliseum Arena, two arenas that have been either demolished or renovated extensively.
