Lighthouse Creative - Personal branding

Recommended Posts

so i decided to go with something out of the box for my personal branding, rather than "insert name designs" and settled on lighthouse creative. i at first had a bit of trouble with the logo but i like where i have it now (although its not finished). ive combined (or tried to) a pencil and a lighthouse.

its grey scale as of now as i am undecided on colours (suggestions are welcome)

c&c please

The pencil isn't obvious until after being pointed(always intend your puns) out. The 3 signaure scallops where the wood of the pencil meets the coating are absent so that's delaying the uptake. I'd leave those in place and remove the "collar" from the lighthouse. Add one or two beams of light emanating from the lead. For colors, you'd be good to go with some yellow to drive it home.

i like your idea and i think the direction you're going in is good. you just need to simplify and unify some things. i suggest doing a composition like this

Maybe try using an iconic fountain pen head for the top of the lighthouse and see if that comes through better

AMEN to that, that would allow you to add colours too, gold for the tip, maybe the beam of light going through the "slot" of the fountian pen...

The fountain pen really worked well, but make it 25% less Islanders. :Oo: The colors make it look like some sort of in-house design firm for the Islanders.

That's my problem I really like the orange/blue colour scheme

Different shades? Additional colors?

Different shades? Additional colors?

He should add Atlantic green and silver. :upside:

I don't think the shadowing of the "light" works with the flat lighthouse. I think just a solid or two shades of yellow split down the middle would work better.

Atlantic green? The reason I used the gradient was to convey the metallic-ness of the nib

If you like the name, there are some other options using the same concept...

- Flip the pen/pencil. Add some rocks and stab it into the ground... have your eraser as the top of your lighthouse.

- use the pen/pencil as the light beam coming from the lighthouse. If you work it right- you could make that beam also function as if it's drawing the lighthouse so it works both ways.

If you like the Orange/Blue scheme but want to make it less Islanders, I suggest designing you logo to work reversed out on a navy as well as orange. Meaning - go simple with the logo and work in one color. You'll give yourself and your brand more versatility and more flexibility in doing so. I put together the second example, so if you like that idea, by all means run with it, but I found some other examples of what I mean.
