Yes MLS bought the LAFC and LASC naming rights. They are going to use it as a bargaining tool for new expansion clubs in the future, especially for a second LA club. Chivas might in the end relocate to San Diego then an second LA club is possible.

Don Garber has repeated multiple times that Chivas USA isn't going to move from Los Angeles. There is nothing to suggest that Chivas is going to relocate to San Diego or any other market.

In 2015 Chivas USA is going to rebrand as something else and stay in LA.

Yeah, Occam's Razor. Why move LA's second team out of LA, only to introduce a new second team in LA with a name that the original second team owns the rights to? Makes no sense.

The simpler explanation is that Chivas USA and the LAFC/SC trademarks will be sold together, and the new owners will be able to decide if they want to go with one of those names or something entirely different.

Makes sense. What also makes sense is that this franchise could be easily relocated since they do not have a long term home. SD also seems like a long shot as it appears that the TJ club has a pretty strong foothold on that market already.I think we will just have to see how this one plays out.

Agreed, but if relocated, you'd have to think it would be somewhere with a suitable stadium or stadium plan in place. Seems more likely that MLS will work with an LA-based ownership group to get a new permanent home in/around LA. Seems farther along there than anywhere else they might move to.

Is there a reason why a move to Southern Orange County wouldn't be a good idea? Still in the LA area but can also easily pull from the heavily populated North County San Diego. Seems like a good un-move.

A team there would undoubtedly be heavily supported considering it's suburbia with a heavy youth and soccer mom culture. Though a location north closer to Los Angeles proper would be more centrally located for the LA metro.

And if you don't want to splurge on the expansion fee, Chicago should be available for purchase and relocation before the decade is out.

out of curiosity.....what makes you say that?

While Chicago has terrible attendance, they have a brand new stadium, that I just don't see them abandoning.

Colorado, New England, and Chicago are perfect examples of why suburb stadiums don't work, especially in the MLS.

I'd throw NYRB in there, but if that team was run properly, and went after world class players in their prime like LA, Seattle, and TFC has done, they would be just fine. If NYCFC bring in 3 big names, that will severely affect them
