beruud
2,339 replies 218,888 views ??? are they really that popular !?I'm pretty sure it isn't the Bucs' popularity that's driving this thread. People keep coming back here for the same reason everyone slows down while passing an auto accident on the freeway.Yup you nailed it... I'm watching the Jags game and I swear this is like a Semi-pro game... players I dont know, horrific jerseys / pants / helmets. Please do not fool yourself, the Buccaneers jersey is conceptually and creatively an abomination. Read the "FANFARE" Here...
PhlyBoy
I'm going to be honest. Take out the horrific numbers, and the Bucs' unis have grown on me quite a bit. Yes, I even really like the helmet now. Shocked the hell out of me when saw them in action and thought "not as bad as I originally thought." Still not as good as the old set, but not as terrible as I thought.

Still not as good as the old set, but not as terrible as I thought. I agree with this. The number font and the mismatching sleeve patches are still the biggest problems with this set. But, after seeing them in game action for the first time, they're not as terrible as I thought they were back in April. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. I'm watching the Jags game and I swear this is like a Semi-pro game... players I dont know, horrific jerseys / pants / helmets.I watched a bit of the replay on NFL Network this morning. It really reminded me of a WLAF game. While both uniforms are terrible, Jacksonville actually came away looking better to me. They could be acceptable if they just changed the helmet to a solid color. Tampa's uniforms are just abysmal. The only good thing I can say about them is at least the red jerseys look red on TV and not quite as orange as they look in pics.
vicfurth
The uniforms look much better in-game than on paper. From a distance the numbers were actually tolerable. The helmet wasn't that bad either. Not sure if it's actually good. As a juxtaposition against Jacksonville, anything looks good. Still give these a C

I thought once it was on the field and viewed in the context of an nfl stadium / game I'd at least find soemthing redeeming about it.Nope. JayMac
Whether or not they look better than they did in April or not, they are still a monumental downgrade from the previous set. That's the comparison that should always be made. The only upside to that game to me was that the colors seem to pop for both teams. That's the only positive. When the new uniforms were unveiled, most of the comments were "We'll have to see what they look like in a real game." I think the April-to-August comparison is pretty legit. hormone
Well, I LOVE the Bucs previous (top 3) set and I also have a special place in my heart for the creamcicles as that's when I became a fan, but I hated these when I first saw them. Putting them in a game months later, they weren't that bad. Maybe I have the Stockholm syndrome or maybe I went through the grief process and I'm at the acceptance phase, but wearing red socks helped a bit. All in all, maybe these are the "Bills" uniforms or maybe this is what the newer generation likes (as kids have now come up through HS and college with wild designs). Anyway, it is what it is and I've grown to at least accept them...for what? 5 years? I do believe we'll see an orange jersey in a year or two because I think they were "still asking" the NFL if they could do the creamcicle throwbacks (and they'll get denied). This would also explain the orange sock option a bit. This is my squad and I'll stick to them good and (mostly) bad.
beruud
I went to the Buffalo Bills preseason game against the Buccaneers. The running joke at halftime was..."The Bills are playing as bad as the Buccaneers uniforms look"They look as bad if not worse, it a very confusing design in general. Everyone around me was commenting on them and some of the women and kids were asking if this was a new team... LOLYeah sorry peeps. I love my Bucs, I love the new logo, but the helmet and uniforms are the NFL worst. Please do not fool yourself, the Buccaneers jersey is conceptually and creatively an abomination. themightyspitz
Everyone around me was commenting on them and some of the women and kids were asking if this was a new team... The corollary, though, is that prior to these uniforms the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were unremarkable and completely forgettable. (Not an endorsement of the new look, keep in mind...they are still terrible...)

Eventually, they're going to change back to the throwbacks. This idea totally disappoints me, but it's pretty much inevitable IMO with the nature of this last update. The thing that absolutely KILLS me about the new set is that they basically killed any shot of them returning to the last logo set which was a complete home run. At least if they hadn't made that stupid "subtle update" they could swap to nicer uniforms in a few years pretty much no harm no foul. But now even if they do that, they'd have to stick with the newer far inferior logo set. That's the real tragedy if this "update". Mess with the uniforms all you want. Swap the colors. Go 2000s Bills for a few seasons and get it out of your system. But now because they changed the basic structure of the logo, the previous logo is stuck as a "middle" logo, and it's only a subtle (but totally awful) change, and that's basically always purgatory for a logo set. Roger Clemente
I'll give them credit for creating a jersey that is safe to wear when jogging at night. Buffalo
I watched the Bills-Bucs game and actually thought the jerseys and helmet looked AWESOMEI didn't notice the stupid numbers, and the Bills awful play bothered me 100X more than the Bucs.IN FACT, I thought the chrome facemask was awesome. So yes, chalk it up as something that is far better in execution than on paper.Unique, modern and not so bad.Maybe if I were a TB Bucs fan, I'd be bonkers, but the new togs looked pretty cool IMHOGo Bills!! imawalkingcorpse
The uni's look really good in person, still far too much ugly pewter, but a good looking uni nonetheless. I hate the new Buccaneers logo. Pewter was boring in 97, even more boring now.
