This reminds me of Jacksonville's "Teal in this lighting, black in another". It looks chrome/pewter from one angle, blackish/dark pewter in another.

Overall, I like it. They pirate ship, though, is about two flags too high. Remove them top two flags, and then whole package is great.

I'm not a fan of the size of the logo on the helmet, and I absolutely HATE the wordmark. But the logo changes are fine in my eyes. And, surprisingly to myself, the one thing I was most worried about is something that I actually like: the facemask. That brushed aluminum look works really well with the shell color.

The good:

- I actually think the new wordmark is an upgrade

- That updated ship logo is pretty sexy, no idea how they'll use it though because it wouldn't look good shrunk down to appear on uniforms

Everything else about this terrible, ugly, stupid or all three at once.

- Nothing about the new logo is an improvement on the old one. One thing I particularly hate that hasn't been mentioned yet is the change of the stitching on the football to white, it may be more accurate but I find my eye drawn to it and 'distracted' from what should be the more important parts of the logo in a way that just wasn't happening before.

- The chrome facemask and abso:censored:inglutely terrible OVERSIZED logo (a trend that has yet to look good anywhere) are both prime examples of bandwagon jumping design that will look hideously dated very soon

And...for all you Gradient fans, the Bucs have it,,,from an article on their website:

"Also unique to the Buccaneers’ look will be a hand-painted shading technique that uses a darker pewter color running vertically from the front of the helmet to the crown and along the ear-holes, providing a one-of-a-kind custom look."

that, my friends = gradient.....

sheeeeeeesh

Time for an old favourite graphic of mine:

I may be off, and it'll be up to ColorWerx to confirm or deny, but it appears that black is entirely gone from the scheme and the "silver"/"chrome" is slightly tinted to a color I can only provisionally call "pale pewter."

I'm confused...I see quite a bit of black on the new logo as well as the word mark shown above. The entire work mark is black with a silver drop shadow. Don't understand how you can deduce the total removal of black from that.
The "black" is the new, darker pewter color. In the same way that it made the helmet seem black in the official photo, it seems black as the outline. But click that link in my last post. The background is black. You can see the difference there.

I don't know man, it still comes across as looking a lot more like black than a "dark pewter". I can definitely see it now that I look at it again in the word mark, but its only because I'm looking for it and really trying to see it. I would bet that as usual it will be a detail that will be more easily noticed and debated on this board (like most subtle details are) but will probably be totally missed by the general public. I realize that is what this board is built around, but it begs the question: why not just use black instead?

Because black is already over-used

So instead they will try to be "different" and use a color that is a few shades lighter than black? I find that to be even worse...like they are trying too hard.

First impression was slightly negative for me. Then I started to come around to it....

And now I hate it. The logo is a horrible downgrade. The skull looks cartoony, the football looks like something out of NFL Play 60 and then lack of motion lines makes the red all candy-apple iPhone app interface. The oversized logo will be outdated next week. The chrome facemask will not match anything and stick out. And the pirate ship being red makes no sense. If htey were switching to black jerseys I would understand. I would maybe even like the bigger logo, but no.

Hate to quote Paul Lukas but this does not pass the good or stupid test.

you know what would be worse than a red ship on a red jersey sleeve....a red ship on a pewter jersey.

I agree 100%.

I hate the new Buccaneers logo. Pewter was boring in 97, even more boring now.

Say what you want about the new logo - but its still better than the old

IMHO, it's absolutely not. That logo you used on the top isn't the right logo, either. That thing looks pretty jacked up.

Um, yeah, i'm not buying it. Those detail lines are still black.
