Tampa Bay Buccaneers Getting New Logo, Helmet & Uniforms

Recommended Posts

that helmet is now my favorite helmet in all of football, and i'm usually a traditionalist. the logos are probably too big, but i'm willing to overlook that.

i love the new logo so much that i wish i was fan enough to buy a hat, but alas, i'm a titans fan and don't like wearing logos of teams i don't cheer for, except in the rarest of occasions.

i can't wait to see it in action, and i pray the uniforms aren't ridiculous.

Um, yeah, i'm not buying it. Those detail lines are still black.

The background is black. The lines are not. Still inconclusive, sure, but they are certainly not the same color on this official, Bucs-released graphic.

BG looks true black (0,0,0) while the sword lines/outline looks like "graphic black" (not quite 0,0,0)

Yeah. The outline definitely isn't pewter.

Well, I prefer the old logo. And the old colors. Probably the old uniforms, too.

But the wordmark is an upgrade, other than the BucS one. With all of those squared letters, and the way they are displayed, it reminds me too much of another Bucks.

That said, it still looks like the modern Bucs so far... so that's a good thing. It's a downgrade in my mind only because of how unnecessary it all is. The switch in 1997 was to a modern classic. We'll see how they do this time. So far, so ... okay.

Question. There's no rule about adding another decal to a helmet to be worn with an alt jersey right? Because What if (just a WHAT IF here), they have an Orange alt jersey that would be in their current style, but have a decal thats the same as the new one but only orange instead of red. Then it's like "well we can't wear a throwback but heres an updated throwback" kind of like the chargers, but a step further.

The oversized logo on the helmet is a little much but overall I think there is potential in the uniforms. The Bucs have had a great identity and I'm hoping we'll see a homerun with the rest of the set. I'll withhold my final judgment until I see the helmet paired with the actual uniforms.

I mocked up what the new logo could look like with the old flag and I definitely prefer it with the old flag.

I don't think the NFL would allow that. They're pretty strict about having one helmet due to the amount of use it gets as a branding element. I think having a different logo would be pushing it too far.

When it comes to the uniforms, for some reason I get a really strong feeling they're going to take a path similar to these Virginia Tech uniforms. I don't exactly know why, but it's all I can picture. In my head, it doesn't look good.

I give the new identity a solid 8 out of 10. Did the team have to change it up? No, not at all. The chrome facemask is nice, I actually think the flag makes a sweet large helmet logo, and the new pewter looks much more like pewter than a metallic turd brown.

Now if only I hadn't shelled out $100 bucks on a new Lavonte David jersey after Christmas.

Why would they have an orange flag? Jolly rogers were black and red. They weren't orange. There's a reason they continue to use a red flag.

The orange to match orange acts. Plus umm pretty sure jolly Rogers were black with white skull

The new logo on the old flag looks pretty good, IMO. I like the tattered look. I like how the sword on the old logo interacted with the flag (with that small vertical line that looks like the sword is pressing up against the flag, from the back). The new flag is a little too clean. It's not bad by any means, but it lost a little bit of character.

You can change decals that how teams do throwbacks, just has to be same helmets. They could always do an updated alternate orange jersey, with bucco Bruce(not altered) on the helmet, but I dont see them doing that.

Ummm they were red as well. Google it, my friend. Red usually meant the pirates were going for blood.

Yeah, I'm staring right at it, and the lines look exactly like the background to me.

Your monitor isn't letting you see the difference, then. :) They're not the same color.

It's basically the background is RGB black, and the outline is what CMYK black looks like when simply switched over to an RGB graphic.

This is a possibility. Though the new Facebook cover photo for the Buccaneers is also definitely not black:

I like it.

That's not the point. The point is that a different logo with the modern identity gives them two helmets to use. They didn't allow Seattle to have two different helmets to use with a modern set when they rebranded in the 00s. I doubt they'd allow that now (for the reasons given).

The helmet issue with the throwbacks was (presumably) a response to the lawsuit from brain trauma on players so that current players wouldn't have a leg to stand on legally (the line of thought being "we wouldn't allow you to use different helmets that weren't fit properly throughout the season - we're not liable). Players COULD change helmets throughout the year - Jay Cutler and Josh McCown for the Bears are examples of players that did. For a whole team, however, the process would be too exhaustive to accomplish simply for a throwback look. I'd imagine that'll change this year in that teams will have time to fit players to more than two helmets at the start of the season (they're currently fit to a practice and a game shell).

I'm going to have to finish up for the night and continue this tomorrow, but here's a teaser: old helmet graphic vs. new helmet graphic:

I can tell you my High School Junior and all his Friends who are avid Seahawks fans, were all jumping around, saying how sick the new helmet is.

High School and College kids love it... I didnt like it on a matte helmet, but in the lights it looks great, and I love that they did not throw away the brand, but updated it.

The Wordmark = Love it

Primary Logo = Like it, and its a wash as to whether its better or not.

Secondary Logo = fantastic

Size of helmet decal = I like oversized decals, and the old one got lost on the muddy metalic helmet... this one will pop from 100 yards away.
