I mean, usually I'm fine with most of Nike's looks and get kinda annoyed when people automatically hate a design just because it's Nike (I think I'm in the minority thinking the Seahawks look good, though). At the same time though, I'm far from a Nike apologist and when they've got a bad design (the Jags, some of their college stuff, whenever Syracuse is wearing grey in hoops/lax or too much navy in football), I'm calling them out on it. This? OH GOD.

The addition of orange stripes adds a nice little balance. And that's where I stop. As many have noted, there was nothing that needed to be changed. At least judging by the leaked photo, it looks a little too pewter heavy. I'm fine with pewter pants to match the pewter helmet, but the pewter stripe on top is overboard. The numbers are without a doubt the worst number set I have ever seen on a sports uniform. It makes zero sense with the rest of the elements, it looks like it can be unreadable... I can just go on and on but the fact is it's awful.

I think the template, at least on the road jersey, can be salvaged a little bit, but then I think it might look too much like Tennessee (if it doesn't already) with the contrasting top and sleeve colors. Either way, there was zero that needed to be changed on the uniforms in the first place, so that's moot point.

Initial reaction: It will take some getting used to, but I could like these.

In other words, the same reaction I had to the Seahawks uniforms. When I first saw those, I was shocked by the random panels and asymmetry. As time went on and I saw folks wearing the jerseys, I actually liked them, loved the pops of lime green. Bucs now are using "bay orange" in the same way. Expect lots of bright orange merchandise (hats, hoodies, etc.)

Nike's history since returning to the NFL

Jaguars, Seahawks, Vikings, Dolphins, Buccaneers (am I missing anybody?)

Of those five I think only the Vikings are an improvement on the previous uniforms and logos (and it was pretty effing hard to be worse than Minny's old unis) and they still have a handful of flaws that I would fix.

The future of football uniforms is going to a dark place where bad taste reigns and good decision making is non-existent.

I agree that the NFL is in an awful place aesthetically (and has been since well before Nike took over). But I think it's starting to get to design buffs to the point where everthything new is automatically the worst thing ever. I don't think these are fantastic, but they are fairly tame. Certainly not on the level of Jacksonville or Seattle, and the Vikings numbers bother me more than these do.

New designs are not automatically the worst things ever and when a team debuts a new good look (Like the Dallas Stars for example) then the majority of people will give it credit. This board is actually pretty democratic when it comes to how successful a new look is. If it's bad then people will say so and not just because it's cool to trash every new look. Maybe it's that most new looks lately actually suck?

Tame?

The Vikings are Tame. These are the antithesis of tame. Digitized numbers, flat pewter yoke, flat pewter pants, shiny pewter helmet with a first-of-its-kind-in-the-NFL chrome facemask, biggest helmet logo in the history of the NFL, random color spots, differing sleeve logos, and overly detailed logos. What's tame about all of that?

Maybe they're "not that bad" (they are that bad), but "not that bad" is a disaster when you're replacing some of the best uniforms the NFL has ever seen.

This isn't just fixing what isn't broken. This is taking something that works really really well and "fixing" it with something that is broken.

I concurr with you and keep my comment as they are not that bad but the numbers do not fit.

So its a downgrade, whatever number font they use.

Some on Reddit are claiming these are the alternate uniforms and not the regular away unis. So maybe there is hope? *gulp*

The write up on the Bucs website says that there are 2 jerseys, 2 sets of pants, and three sets of socks...so I'm willing to bet that Reddit is wrong on this one.

Am I missing this? Where does it say that?

Edit: My bad, found it. However, I thought that was referring to the "Elite 51" style Nike is going on about - as in there are two jersey cuts available, two pants cuts, etc. but that doesn't make sense as to why they would specify "one helmet." So, natural conclusion re: three sock options - pewter, red, orange(!)?

The three sock question is a good one. What colors? Obviously one pair is pewter to be worn on the road with the pewter pants (because somebody is an idiot) and presumably another will be red, to be worn with the red jersey, but what is the third? Nike doesn't do striped socks, so... orange? Black? Weird.

Wait... I just had terrible thought. The second pair of pants? Bet they're RED. I'll bet you the home uniform is red jersey over red pants over red socks!

Its about to get worse!

Sigh. I just...

I mean the new ship logo...

I'm just gonna wait until they unveil the whole...

Oh who am I kidding? These :censored:ing suck. The ONE design element they had to copy from another team is the G-d damn Titans yoke? Are you :censored:ing kidding me, Malcolm Glazer? Yeah, these are about what I expected. :censored:ing garbage. Just like the team itself.

I know this is a sports logos and uniforms board, but has anyone ever straight up tapped out on a team because of a uniform change? Anyone ever actually gone as far as to take one look at a uniform and say "It was a good run, but I'm out. Here's my resignation letter". Because I'm pretty damn close.

The longer I sit with this the more upset I get.. I mean, this really is turning into a lost opportunity.

Can someone please tell me what happened to this Nike?

Those are all so very clean, professional, and... well, digestible in comparison. You know, there was a time I was hoping Nike would tweak the Lions set, removing the black and possibly even fixing the number font. But I'm starting to think they don't know how to tweak. Now I don't want them to touch the Lions. Subtle fixes do not appear to be in their playbook.

Vikings fans should count themselves lucky they made it out alive. Ya, their number font isn't great, and I'm still not sold on the sleeve stripe, but in hindsight it certainly could have been worse.

God help us.

Have to agree. If you like them, you're certainly untitled to that opinion. But "tame"?... you have to be the only one on the planet making that claim.

In case anyone was wondering what the home version might look like, here's a quick and dirty PhotoShop mockup:

Try that with red pants and red socks... that's my guess.

If I were you, I'd be 100% about the 49ers right now. I won't blame you for a second if you drop the Buccaneers.

@ CS85, the song was terrific. Several LOLs. Nice work.

Thanks. It killed a solid hour of work.
