guest23
Here is the full numerical set. I will post the lettering soon.I cannot fathom how multiple people sat, looked at these and thought 'Yep, that's the look we wanna go for'.Here's my theory of what happened in the room when the plain version of these numbers was first presented.Art Director: "God Good, that's an ugly font! (Laughter all around) Is there anything we can possibly do to make this even uglier?"Designer: "Well, we could see if that want a double... no, wait... triple outline!" (More laughter)Art Director: "That's a start, but I'm talking really ugly"Designer: "What say we make one of the outlines a shiny chrome deal. We could say it's some kind of cutting edge material no one has ever heard of." (Snickering and muttered questions of who would fall for that)Art Director: "Now your talking! But what will really take this over the top? What will make this the ugliest font in history?"(30 seconds of tense silence... heads turn towards the designer)Designer: "I've got it!! Let's put some kind of lines or, I don't know, like slashes through the numbers. (Starts to laugh) Sure it'll look like a cheap digital clock, but we can totally sell it as some bullcrap about pirates decorating their swords!"Art Director: "Perfect!" (Much laughter, some applause, shaking hands and patting each other on the back)And... SCENE!The Pontiac Aztek of fonts.
BrandMooreArt
I just came across some notes from Steven Heller (designer and author) and thought it was relevant to this subject of Nike uniforms and such"The problem with the Cult of Ugly is its become a style that appeals to someone without intelligence to make something more interesting out if it while [unreadible word] are following their varying muses. Their followers are using their signature designs and type as style without substance""Anything that becomes too popular falls into a pit. Once you start copying you lose inspiration that founded it. Captain Poncho
Never present something you hate. Period. Because that's how it always works out.Cannot emphasize this enough to young designers. If you have thought through your process and solutions appropriately, you'll like it. At least, you'll like it enough.

JQK
Those are all nauseatingly horrible, but that 7 is beyond the pale. There are not enough negative adjectives in the English language to describe how bad the 7 is.Oh...let's take a closer look at that 7, shall we?:It looks like some sort of tool.Everyone wearing these uniforms is gonna look like some kinda tool... TheRicSlick
I never thought that these numbers, would now look awesome in comparison to what the bucs are going to wear this year.Even after the Bucs' recent number font disaster, those numbers on the Bucs' old practice jerseys are still horrible and would be better suited for a 6th grade team. habsfan1
You know what, I like them. They're different, but they suit the package of the Bucs new identity.
FiddySicks
I know most of these have been posted here several times, but there are one or two even I've never seen before. http://www.myfoxtampabay.com/story/24761618/2014/02/19/rumors-swirl-about-bucs-new-logo-uniform On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) It's not such much about looking mean anymore. It's about looking as ugly as possible because that's what's shocking now.
hawk36
This one on pewter minus the B on the hat would've been very nice. Design Hovie Studios
hormone
As a die-hard, I keep trying to tell myself to like these. I don't know if it's because I grew up with the clean looking creamcicles or if I really liked the modernization (and success/super bowl win) of the last set. My very first reaction to the leaks were "I hope this is someone's bad photoshop" Last year, I just purchased a white Martin, orange Jackson, and red Revis (thanks for that one) in authentic too. It just has too many things I hate 1) Chrome 2) leotard socks/pants 3) shoulder yoke and 4) weird font. I keep hearing them say "wait til you see these on the field or in the light" but then why would you release stock photos on a black background in a studio? I think as a die hard, I'll probably get them just to "have the latest" and for collection reasons. In a few years, these will be gone (unless ugly is the new standard) and you'll hear "we listened to the fans..."The best part of the set is 1) the ship logo and 2) The pants are alright. Gothamite
This one on pewter minus the B on the hat would've been very nice. Yes, it would have. It would have kept the wonderful hand-drawn treasure map quality, which brought so much visual interest to the prior version and which is sorely lacking in their rather fussy new logo. _RH_
The triple outline doesn't really bother me because the orange doesn't really pop on either the red or the white background; the grey and black (why do they need grey and black in their color scheme?) draw the attention IMO.I think the numbers look way better without the internal slashes, although their previous number font was better. TruColor
So...here's how the 7 will really look - according to the official NFL guidelines: They're using a Silver gradient to represent the Chrome on the trim, as well as a double-red dot pattern in the numerals themselves. I'll post more later...
