Is it consensus that replay review is pretty cool?

Uggh, no. It's been three days worth of it, and I already hate it. They said that replay would probably be used maybe once every six games or so, but so far I've seen single games where it's been used two or three times. That's a bit overkill, if you ask me.

They need to do something to give it more of risk, like the NFL does by charging teams a time out if the challenge fails. I don't know how you do that though. There aren't any time outs in baseball, and the idea of awarding a team a base/strike/out/ect because the other manager lost the challenge is awful.

Angels start 0-3 for the first time since 1992.

I have a feeling this isn't going to be the last of this type of "first time since" this season.

....the Angels!

Mariners sweep Angels, outscoring them 26-8. First 3 game sweep in Anaheim since '06 and only the third 3-0 start in franchise history, after '85 & '95.

Sweeping the Angels is like beating the Lakers... and? If the Mariners can sweep Boston or play above .500 then it's a good year, but beating the Angels is not saying much.
Angels are much better than the Lakers, that's not a good comparison.

Reds and Cardinals have combined for two runs through two games.

Tony Cingrani is going to be very good. Only pitcher in 100 years to make 19 straight starts while giving up 5 hits or less. Not bad.

Also, Cards fans, I don't think this game is happening today. At least not on time. The rain doesn't look like it's letting up and the radar doesn't look promising. That's April baseball for ya.

That the Lakers have their own channel and the Dodgers have their own channel and both are called "Time Warner Cable SportsNet" might just be the height of sports media crapulence.

You know just as well as I do, that there will be a day when the Jacksonville Jaguars have their own TV channel.

I think the essence behind replay is solid but they have to institute limits. Managers and players are quickly becoming trained to the idea of challenging everything possible and it's killing too much time.

The first time the Cubs used it it was 90 seconds cut and dry, play ball. Yesterday it was over 5 minutes to review an inconsequential foul tip. If you're gonna have this let it only effect home runs and plays at the plate or first only at the judgment of the umpire chief. If Maddon, for example, wants to challenge every double play ball where there's not a "clean exchange" from mitt to hand, the umpire chief can tell him to blow it out his ass.

I didn't follow the offseason closely. But is there currently no limit to the reviews? Perhaps something like each manager has 1 challenge to start the game. If they challenge the call and the call stands they lose the challenge, but if it's successful they get to keep the challenge.

I wouldn't say it was inconsequential. It was a foul tip or a HBP. In a low scoring game, putting runners on base helps, no matter how it's done.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

If you're the kind of person who would even think "gee, I think I'll propose at a sporting event," and you have successfully found another human being who can love you, aren't you basically playing with house money in this world? You've inexplicably made it this far in life, what's another $2,500 for you but a more expensive Dodger game than usual?

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

What's stopping you from pulling out the ring during the 7th inning stretch when everyone is looking elsewhere?

The rest of the team is hitting .151 with 4 RBI.

I'm drinkin the Astros kool-aid already... I smell less than 95 losses for them this year! (Which is sayin something)

What about the Marlins?

Definitely them too. If they finished 3rd in the East it wouldn't shock me. I think Fernandez is incredible. The Marlins always seem to reload through the minors, and for this rebuild I think it's starting to show. They'll probably be contending in a year or two... And then I'm sure they'll blow it all up.

I thought they meant proposing via the big screen.
