I read all of this about Cardinals fans having their heads so far up in the clouds, and then I go and read some of the comments Cubs fans are leaving about this whole Sosa not being invited to Wrigley thing and how he just owes it to all of them to grovel and cry till they feel it's enough to let him back into the glorious inner circle that is the Cubs legacy. It pretty much goes to show that even teams without the winning tradition have some absolute boobs as fans. I dunno. Maybe it's a Midwest thing? Oh who am I kidding? OF COURSE it's a Midwest thing! The_Admiral
Sosa has done his time. It's been eleven years since the cork, and we're closing in on ten years since the boombox. That's a long time to pretend a guy never existed and never did anything for your team. Of course it was all thanks to steroids, but the Cubs and the great Wrigleyville combine wouldn't be viable businesses if Sosa hadn't been there smacking dingers when there was nothing else worth seeing up through about 2003. Here's some napkin math: a Cubs fan who just started college last week was just starting 3rd grade when Sammy Sosa walked out on the team, finishing 1st grade when the corked bat broke. That same kid was in day care during the home run chase. Sosa's graces and sins (which in his case are the same deeds) are, as far as modern sports go, ancient history. There's nothing left to gain by pretending he never existed. I wouldn't retire his number, that's for sure, but we can end the exile. If we're waiting for the Cubs to win the World Series so we can be all ALL SINS FORGIVEN like Boston was with Buckner, we're going to be waiting a hell of a long time, because the Cubs are not constructed to win a championship, they're constructed to save money for a guy who was hand-picked to buy the team because of how deep it would put him in debt. So yeah Cubs woo ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

monkeypower
Considering the Nats would have probably have to go through one of the AL powerhouses, I doubt it. And what about Michael Wacha and the Cardinals, don't they have something prove? Who's going to win between the Nats and Cards? And is Bryce Harper honestly still a news story? I don't have ESPN in Canada and Canadian sports media usually talks about Mike Trout more when they are talking about non-Blue Jays baseball. And you can't compare Trout and Harper anymore, one is now the supposed new face of baseball and the other is now a fauxhawk toolbag.

And what about Michael Wacha and the Cardinals, don't they have something prove? Who's going to win between the Nats and Cards?I get a mild kick out of how easily people want to write off Washington's chances at post-season success despite them being the best team in the National League and arguably just as good (at least in the same class) as the A's and Angels (presumably the AL powerhouses you're referring to). The Washington Nationals may be the best team no one has ever heard of. According to the Playoff Projections at Fangraphs, the Nationals have an 18.6% chance at winning the World Series this year. Nearly five percentage points better than the second place Detroit Tigers. Of course, this also technically means that the Nationals have an 81.4% chance of not winning the World Series (and thus being labeled as complete failures for ever and all time). So there's that I guess. "In the arena of logic, I fight unarmed."I tweet & tumble.

dfwabel
Ron Washington resigns as manager of the Texas Rangers. His statement was a little ominous since if the matter was that serious, he could have not manages the rest of the season since they were eliminated from the playoffs last night.“Today, I have submitted my resignation from the job I love — managing the Rangers — in order to devote my full attention to addressing an off-the-field personal matter.Washington said in a statement. As painful as it is, stepping away from the game is what’s best for me and my family. This is in no way related to the disappointing performance of the team this season. We were already discussing 2015 and looking forward to getting the Rangers back to postseason contention.I deeply regret that I’ve let down the Rangers organization and our great fans. Over the past eight seasons, it’s been a privilege to be part of some of the best years in club history, and I will always be grateful for the opportunities I’ve had here and for the great management, players, and coaches who have made our time here a success.Thank you for respecting my privacy."Time to ride off is his hooptie. Sport
Maybe he wasn't the right guy for the rebuilding effort, but what is Bo Porter supposed to do with that Astros team? They lost 111 games last year and that was probably a good managerial effort on his part. He's got the Astros 8 games up on the Rangers, they won't lose 100 games for the first time since 2010, and they play in a division with Anaheim, Oakland, and Seattle. You have to give somebody a little grace when your team was so completely in shambles like the Astros have been.
